We recently connected with Jackie Millan and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started my real estate career back in 2013, and I kind of just bumped into it. I was stuck in a regular job, kind of confused and not knowing what I want it out of life. A lot of it had to do with thinking that I wasn’t prepared for it because I had no college experience so I didn’t believe in myself. Real estate has truly changed my life. Sometimes not believing ourselves or just not even knowing or understanding what we wanna do in life holds us back. Many of the lessons that I have been taught in Keller Williams have open road maps for me for different areas in my life now I don’t say I can’t. I see how can I and I put a plans and ideas together? I still have a long way to go, but I’m a lot further than where I was.
If I would’ve started sooner, I possibly would’ve had a bigger investor portfolio, and I’ve also would’ve been able to help out a lot more people. You see every time I learn something wrong. I wanna go teach it to somebody to give them the gift that I’m being given that’s just how my heart works.
For the average hourly employee that has a dream or waitress, that’s struggling just to make ends meet a little bit of time just to do research on what you dream of. And you know I’ll give yourself permission to dream, because we can accomplish everything that we want in life. Those are the people that I really want to reach out to and speak to

Jackie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in the 70s an 80s was pretty hard. A large majority of the adults were using drugs and my parents were some of those people so we always grew up on survival mode. I always know that I was meant for more you just don’t know what and you just don’t know where to start to be honest. I only went to high school for five weeks, and dropped out even though I want to a gifted and talented junior high school. Growing up rough I didn’t have much clothing and in New York City when you’re in high school it’s not who you are. It’s actually what you wear.
I work for a clothing company named Jimmy Jazz for many years and then I went off to work in the post office when I was 22 years old. I was in the post office about seven years, and then I went off to help the elderly, which then brought me to Florida in Florida. I worked for sprint for a couple of years and then I was just so tired and over it I was in my early 30s and I felt like I was lost. I knew that was not my destiny and through my face. I was driving one day and I was just praying to God. I didn’t want him to make me rich. I just wanted him to guide me to a place or a life that I can work my way up, but I just didn’t know what and I remember getting her and my husband asking me. Why don’t I go get my real estate license lol. The following week I was enrolled in real estate school and that was 2013.
As my real estate journey grows, I get to meet no people I get to travel. I get to help so many families. That’s the biggest reward, getting families from. I can’t do this to. Here’s your keys. Helping families achieve their goals, I also help small business owners put small business plans together and help them open their eyes so they can dream more. My goal is to help every person I meet believe in themselves that they can reach their full potential. I also teach a class to Keller Williams Call next GEN that helps young adults think about systems and processes for them to reach their full potential in life or at least try to do so life is so beautiful and we have so many blessings, we have so many resources to basically do will be whatever we want today. We just need guides and I believe that’s what God put me on earth for he constantly puts me in bigger rooms to learn more to share more. I also love to volunteer. I am part of the Rotary club, I’m also the Hispanic liaison for Claritas House and I volunteer with local foundations as much as I can similar to Hopkins Heros. This is what God put me on earth for.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
You know we are human and one thing that happened as you get older is that you used to start to forget things. So you basically have to have a system behind everything. I love to use birthdays or home anniversary to keep in touch with all my customers and friends. I also love to either text or reach out to people every three months because you never know when someone needs your help selling someone a home is not just selling the house and forgetting about them. With our customers, we truly become your realtor and friend for life. So we try to reach out to our customers technically around 60 times per year between emails, text messages, birthday cards and pop by visits. We also like to pay attention to social media when my customers are asking for prayers or maybe lose a pet or they’re not feeling well. I don’t just wanna sell you a house I want to be your resource, the worst thing is for someone to feel lonely, so my goal is to suggest be able to bring clients and friends together. We also hold small events like appreciation events so that our customers can meet one another and also build relationship relationships.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
So real estate is actually one of the cheapest businesses to start. I think the main problem is that most realtors do not respect their business as a business. Most realtors do not reinvest in their business. The beauty of Keller Williams is that they have systems and models so when we start at Keller Williams, they have training programs that’s true how to respect your business. Most realtors are broke to be honest with you so when you get a commission check if you’re in survival mode and you just spend your check, it’s very hard to continue to grow your business and then you have to avoid shiny object syndrome multiple realtors just look for things that they think are gonna help them get rich the truth of the matter is you need to reinvest in your business you need to reinvest in your marketing and your capital so how do you get the capital to start you could become a realtor with under $2500 and it’s very hard to open a business with under $2500 beyond that once you get your first deal, you truly have to follow a true budget model. So maybe a good savings it doesn’t take a long time to save $2500, but respect your business as a business. Follow the models and systems if you’re not part of Keller Williams, you can always join Keller Williams or you can just read the MRE a book which is a millionaire real estate agent by Gary Keller.
