Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ivann Garc. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ivann, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
No, it was not like that from day one. My journey has been anything but a straight line.
I come from a very humble background in Mexico City where art was not really seen as a career path. I studied graphic arts and advertising, more as a smart move suggested by my mom than a dream of mine. At that time, my plan was to work and help at home, but those studies gave me skills that allowed me to work in design and marketing for years, first in Mexico and then in the United States.
For a long time, I thought that was the only way I could stay connected to creativity. Art was always part of me, but it stayed as a hobby until 2015, when I was invited to a chalk art festival in my hometown. That experience reignited something in me.
From that moment, it has been a journey of balancing other jobs, practicing my craft, and slowly building a space for myself as a full-time artist. It was not a quick process, but over time, I found a way to make it happen.

Ivann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Today, I am a visual artist specializing in large scale murals, 3D illusions, chalk art, and tattooing. My focus is on creating art that is immersive and interactive, turning flat spaces into experiences that people can feel part of.
What makes my work different is that I am not just painting walls or sidewalks. I create pieces that tell stories, play with perspective, and emotionally connect with people. Whether it is for a business that wants to stand out, a museum looking for an interactive display, or even someone wanting a meaningful tattoo, my work helps solve the challenge of how to create a personal and memorable connection.
I always say that art is a universal language. My goal is to create visuals that go beyond decoration, pieces that invite people to feel something, reflect, or simply smile. That is the core of my work.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is creating something that speaks a universal language. When people connect emotionally with my work whether it is a mural on a public wall or a personal tattoo it goes beyond borders and beyond words. It is about turning ideas emotions or even struggles into something visual that resonates with others. That moment when someone sees themselves reflected in my art is when I know I am doing what I am meant to do.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was thinking that hard work alone guarantees success. Growing up I believed that if I just worked harder everything would eventually fall into place. But life showed me that it does not always work that way. Opportunities do not always come just because you deserve them. I had to learn that building relationships and being visible are just as important as working hard. For a long time I stayed in the background thinking my work would speak for itself. It was not until I started sharing my story and connecting with people that things really started to change
Still, I have learned that not everyone will accept you if you do not fit into their expectations. Being an introverted and straightforward person can make it harder in environments where playing along or being politically correct matters more than being real. But at the end of the day I would rather be accepted for who I am than for what people want me to be.
