We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful It’s JAWN. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with It’s below.
It’s , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
This has to be the most asked question and honestly, the journey to get signed by agent is different for everyone. I know that before I had a agent I was my own agent, negotiating rates, booking & just overall doing all the things that a agent does. But when I started to work with Calvin Klein with no agency, I had leverage to get an agency. and that’s when I discovered that I can get higher rates and better rates when I’m not the talent negotiating for myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
OK, so this is a long story, but I’m gonna make it short because I want to. But basically skateboarded, the majority of my life growing up in Compton and Long Beach, California. I believe that I was gonna go pro and then after I graduated high school it didn’t happen but still skateboarded daily. Eventually ended up getting injured not skateboarding, breaking my leg ( Tibia). Then got addicted to Percocets, because of my broken leg. (I’m basically sober now but that’s for context). I couldn’t walk really couldn’t do anything physical, but I could talk. And that’s when I started recording myself making music and started modeling for money once I could sort of walk so I could eat & live essentially and that’s how I started living the life I do now.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
OK so this was around 2020 and I was working a graveyard shift as a security guard. Recording music while I was on the clock and during the day pulling up to shoots for like Olivia Rodrigo, Chris brown,Young thug. Being a extra in those music videos , mainly skateboarding or jumping in the pools. Or trashing offices,(Free Young Thug). But then I got a DM from Calvin Klein wanting to do a campaign with me across America And after I shot that campaign at my grandmas house in Compton. I ended up getting fired from the graveyard shift while getting multiple billboards and bus stops. ForCalvin Klein. I never look back. It’s kind of crazy how the universe Works. Because I literally manifested it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would say most satisfying thing of being a artist is creating while being in the zone. Because I get a certain freedom from it that, you can’t buy. And as I put this art out into the universe. I connect with more people that I don’t know. And that’s why I truly love being creative. Or just being myself really. IT’s JAWN!
