Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Irita Reagan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Irita , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How I learned photography was by simply doing it! I understand know that I was my biggest hindrance in my early development as a photographer. I was self defeating before I even clicked the shutter. The importance of “is this Instagram worthy?” oftentimes stopped my creative process in it’s tracks. The most essential skill at that time was me being able to simply learn and think outside of the box just because I wanted to.

Irita , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Florida native who moved to Tennessee at the tender age of 16 years old. A few years later I met my husband and we raised a family. Photography has always been a core passion of mine but opportunities are few and far between when you are in the midst of raising a family(as I see no higher calling than being a wife and mother). Once my children grew up I had the time and extra money to pursue photography wholeheartedly. I immersed myself on all the online courses I could get my hands on and found amazing tutors. After a few years of consistent practice and growth, I decided to take the financial plunge and lay down my starter gear for an upgraded camera and lenses. A dear friend of mine who is a Lensbaby ambassador introduced me to a whole new world of macro and creative lenses. It was a game changer for me. I was able to take my photography to the next level and haven’t looked back. Incorporating this lenses along with traditional ones gives my clients more of an experience during their sessions. Providing my clients with a stress-free experience is absolutely essential to me. Creating memories and art that they love is the prime objective in what I do.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer/creative is that I get to take the imperfect moments of life and show the beauty of them. To freeze a moment of time that will never happen exactly the same way again. My family sessions and newborn sessions especially. They feel almost sacred to me…..I believe it is because life is sacred and it is fluid. It changes instantly and we need to be reminded of that.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey as a photographer is to never stop learning. To continually hone and development my skills and my eyes. Photography gives the heart a voice and that voice in return can be used to point to the Master Artist and Creator, Jesus.
