We were lucky to catch up with India K. Easley recently and have shared our conversation below.
India K. , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I didn’t start The Write Easley LLC as a formal business; I started by helping people.
I was tutoring students at a local library, supporting youth who struggled with reading and writing. It wasn’t structured at first, but I quickly saw a bigger need; not just for academic help, but for guidance, confidence, and access to resources.
After the passing of my father in November 2020, things became more intentional. I wanted to build something meaningful that honored his legacy. That’s when the idea shifted from simply helping others to creating a business with purpose and impact.
From there, I moved into research and planning. I asked myself what problems I could consistently solve and who needed those solutions. That’s when tutoring expanded into writing services, grant writing, and business support for individuals and organizations.
In April 2021, I officially launched The Write Easley LLC. I handled the legal setup, but the real work was building systems, services, and credibility. I created templates, structured my offerings, learned compliance processes, and began taking clients; mostly through word of mouth.
There wasn’t a single launch moment. It was long days of tutoring, late nights writing and editing, and constant learning about business operations.
Over time, consistency built trust. Clients referred others, services expanded, and the company grew into something much bigger than I initially imagined.
What started as simply helping people evolved into a structured business; built step by step through purpose, persistence, and service.

India K. , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m the founder of The Write Easley LLC, a Colorado-based consulting and writing firm dedicated to helping individuals, businesses, and organizations bring structure to their ideas and clarity to their vision.
My journey into this work didn’t start in a boardroom; it started in a library. I began as a tutor, working with grade school students who needed support in reading, writing, and comprehension. That experience showed me something deeper: people don’t just struggle with content; they struggle with confidence, direction, and access. As I continued my education and earned multiple degrees, I expanded my work to include college-level support and professional writing. Over time, I realized that the same challenges students faced were also showing up in businesses and organizations; people had great ideas but didn’t always know how to articulate, structure, or fund them.
The turning point came after the passing of my father in 2020. I wanted to build something meaningful that honored his legacy while also creating impact at scale. That’s when I officially launched The Write Easley LLC in 2021.
Today, my company provides a wide range of services including grant writing, business plan development, proposal writing, marketing strategy, business restructuring, compliance support (such as SAM.gov and UEI registration), financial planning, ghostwriting, and educational consulting. I also work with organizations to develop programs, secure funding, and strengthen their operational infrastructure.
At the core, we solve one major problem: we help people turn ideas into executable, fundable, and sustainable realities. Whether it’s a startup trying to launch, a nonprofit seeking grant funding, or an established organization needing structure and growth strategy, we step in to bring clarity, organization, and results.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just provide documents; I provide direction. My work is very hands-on and rooted in education, which means I’m not only delivering a service but also empowering clients to understand the “why” behind what we’re building. I combine real-world business experience, academic knowledge, and a deep commitment to service. Many of my clients come through word of mouth, which speaks to the trust and results we consistently deliver.
What I’m most proud of is the impact. I’ve helped individuals launch businesses, secure funding, and build opportunities they didn’t think were possible. I’ve also been able to create pathways for others; whether through mentorship, partnerships, or future plans for cohorts and training programs that will support aspiring entrepreneurs and professionals.
For anyone considering working with me or following my brand, the most important thing to know is this: The Write Easley LLC is built on purpose, integrity, and results. This is not just about writing; it’s about building legacies, creating opportunities, and making sure that great ideas don’t stay stuck in someone’s head but are brought to life in a meaningful and sustainable way.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A significant portion of my work at The Write Easley LLC involves grant writing, compliance support, and working with systems like SAM.gov and federal funding pipelines. When the shutdown happened, many of those systems slowed down or completely paused. Funding decisions were delayed, communications were limited, and several clients found themselves in a holding pattern; unsure of what would happen next.
At first, it created a lot of uncertainty. Projects that were time-sensitive were suddenly out of my control, and clients were looking to me for answers that even I didn’t fully have in that moment. I had to make a quick decision: wait for things to resume, or pivot and find new ways to continue creating value.
I chose to pivot.
Instead of focusing solely on submissions and approvals, I shifted my clients toward preparation and strategy. We used that time to strengthen business plans, refine proposals, build out supporting documentation, and ensure that when systems reopened, they wouldn’t just be ready; they’d be competitive. I also leaned more into services that weren’t dependent on federal timelines, like business development, marketing strategy, and restructuring.
Personally, it required flexibility and a mindset shift. I had to reassure clients, manage expectations, and stay proactive even when things felt stalled.
Looking back, that moment was actually a growth point. When operations resumed, my clients were in a stronger position than before, and many were able to move faster and more effectively because of the groundwork we laid during the shutdown.
That experience taught me that business isn’t just about execution; it’s about adaptability. Sometimes the pivot isn’t about changing direction completely, but about adjusting your strategy so you can keep moving forward, even when external circumstances try to slow you down.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
One of the most challenging periods for me and The Write Easley LLC came early last year when two major things hit at the same time; the government shutdown and a major surgery I had to undergo.
On the business side, the shutdown slowed down a large portion of my work. Funding approvals were delayed, contracts were paused, and payments that clients were expecting and in turn using to pay for services; were held up. At the same time, I was preparing for and recovering from surgery, which meant I physically couldn’t operate at my normal capacity.
It was one of those moments where everything feels like it’s happening at once. Revenue slowed, but responsibilities didn’t. I had commitments to meet, expenses to cover, and people depending on me. There were definitely moments where I had to take a hard look at cash flow and figure out how to prioritize; what needed to be paid immediately, what could be delayed, and how to keep the business stable without overextending myself.
I had to get very strategic, very quickly.
I leaned into the relationships and trust I had built with clients, communicated transparently, and shifted focus to projects that could still move forward despite the shutdown. I also streamlined operations; cutting unnecessary expenses, tightening timelines, and focusing only on what would generate impact and income in the short term.
At the same time, I had to give myself space to recover, which was a challenge in itself. That period forced me to build systems that didn’t rely solely on me being “on” 24/7.
Looking back, it was a close call—but it strengthened the business. It taught me how to manage through uncertainty, protect cash flow, and build resilience. More importantly, it reminded me that sustainability isn’t just about growth; it’s about being able to withstand difficult seasons and come out stronger on the other side.
