We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ILIONA BLANC. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ILIONA below.
ILIONA, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am an artist and creative in the soul. I’ve always been one for as long as I can remember. I can only find happiness by creating, whether it’s music, a song, a script, a film or sometimes doing some home interior design or furniture renovation… I could never consider a life having a regular job. I could never work from 9-5pm everyday, having a boss and knowing exactly how much I’d be making at the end of the month. To me it’s the opposite of excitement. Being an artist is the only way I know how to live.
ILIONA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a director, screenwriter, singer-songwriter and musician. I’m originally from Paris, born in Gabon, Africa and I moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago.
As a singer songwriter and musician, I released songs in French and English. I was signed with Universal Music and then Sony Music but I am now an Independent artist.
As a director, I began my journey by doing music videos and collaborating with a variety of independent and signed artists. My storytelling is strongly inspired by European filmmaking, culture, art and fashion. My work has been awarded at film festivals throughout Europe and the US as “best music video”. In 2016, I founded my own production company “American Dream Prod”.
I recently wrote a short film and I am currently writing my first feature film and I would love to direct.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Freedom!!! Freedom to create whatever comes out of your head. Freedom of schedule as you can decide when and where you want to work. Freedom of life as you are your own boss.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am a big fan of personal development and I love materials (books, podcasts, videos) from Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Robbins, Jay Shetty, Rob Dial to name a few
