We recently connected with Hulya Kurt and have shared our conversation below.
Hulya , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
Being curious and open for growth. I don’t have any bachelor nor I have PHD or MBA. I just wanted to work and in the times of the 80’s we did not even had a PC, forget about internet, I learned type writing and started to work in some companies before I joined the multinational organization of Reuters in Istanbul. I am origin Turkish and grew up in Germany. Never mind, I started a sales secretary. No fancy job. And I had some time aside so I offered my time for my colleague in customer admin. As the business was growing, she needed more help so I moved over to customer admin. I raised my hand for any new projects, initiatives and became soon the subject matter expert not to mention that I moved up to be the supervisor and from there up to become Business Admin Manager, travelled around the world, did lots of certifications, hired and fired people, did my PMP and got the invitation to have a short term assignment in South Africa, followed moving as an expat to Geneva, Switzerland.
Here I led major transformation programs, created the D&I stream and organized fun events alongside my regular job.
As a multinational, organizational changes are inevitable and I was made redundant. I took that so to say bad news as a challenge and decided to become a diploma coach, accredited and created my own company called InnKick, Innovation kick.
My curiosity and taking each milestone as a learning curve, made me who I am today and I am proud of what I have achieved, with support of my intersm, peers as I believe strongly that from union come strengths.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I guess my story before illustrates my background, Further to that, I would like to add, I was always consulted and asked for advice at my organization. I was always acting as a mentor, as someone who can present skilfully and is fin to be around. I walk the talk and without even any authority, I can energize, motivate and hire people for projects, be able to provide the vision and they why to employees.
My can do attitude and results oriented approach has contributed to numerous positive outcomes, for the individual and the the organization.
Therefore, my decision was clear. I wanted to help professionals who feel stuck in their career and in their life.
I am passionate about being a partner for humans to grow, have the tools and techniques they need to be sustainable in their life’s and be able to tab into their own full potential.
I provide 121 coaching for all levels of professionals. I love facilitating and creating my own workshops as well as creating customised workshops for any organization in the frame of personal development.
As I know what it means to be a full time professional, I have coaching programs tailored towards their most precious asset which is time.
To name a few:
Coach and Lunch
Walk and Talk
Laser Coaching
and for corporates a tailor made form where the organization can choose and pick from.
Being constantly on the move and a learn addict, I did many certifications and diplomas, hence I am combining spirituality with professionalism as we are one, we are human.
All workshops and retreats can be found on my web site.
What makes me different, its me, my ability to transmit the energy, the ability to slice down a big hairy goal into tangible steps and honing into the human mindset for growth.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is very important in life.
I have been made redundant after 30+ years and this is a mega change. I was not really clear about what I wanted to do in the first place, but soon after analysing my strengths it became apparent.
Hence I chose to become a coach but not only a coach, a business owner as I wanted to have the liberty to create, to support humans. On my terms.
Which is a fearful undertaking as you don’t have in the beginning a stable income as you did at an organization.
Sometimes you don’t get the contract or assignment you are hoping for, sometimes you lack confidence, imposter syndrome, sometimes you want to back up. Each time, I remind myself about the why. Why did I choose this path, why I am passionate about what I am doing
Moreover, I lost my husband in 2021, just right after I really wanted to embark on my business.
My soul partner left me and I had to cope with my own grief and the anxiety, panic attacks of my son.
I still did not let go. I kept on going, even if it was on low flame.
Being grateful for the time we spent together and having in mind that life goes on with its beauty around us.
I chose life, to live it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Lots of times. First I started with a co-partner and we wanted to focus on workshops only on innovation. Then we changed our course to be more focused on women and facilitating personal development programs.
After a while my co-partner decided to seek for a regular job and I kept on going, trying to find my niche.
I was for a while a Managing Director for Coach Training Company and neglected a bit my own business, orienting myself to find students.
After careful consideration, I decided to opt out and full go for my own business, using my energy and passion to help organizations for a better workplace, for individuals to break free.
Like my book says: Break Free from your hamster wheel.
