We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hrachouhi Zakaryan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hrachouhi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have always had a love for drawing and creating growing up. I was always making beautiful pictures, jewelry or putting together outfits. I also had a special love for beautiful books and illustrations. I would examine pictures in story books and think about what made them unique and how the artist made those images.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I graduated high school thinking I would go into fashion design but was encouraged to study art, so I pursued illustration. My background in studying children’s books combined with my Armenian heritage allows me to make unique work for an audience of children that need to learn about their ethnicity living outside of Armenia. I also have a passion for sharing my Orthodox Christian faith with the world and that comes through as well.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, sharing the beauty of God with children and those who love Him.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Choose to purchase from independent artists that can give you much higher quality work than the more “popular” names that have inflated prices.
