We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hoor Kesaria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hoor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
A Website is the cheapest salesperson you can hire! Yup. The statement above is a fact. If you google a salespersons salary the results show around $48K-$100K per year. Have you ever imagined paying this for a website? Absolutely not! What if you can get a website(your salesperson who works 24/7) for quarter the price(even lesser)? Wouldn’t you grab that deal?
One another big issue with businesses is that they describe a brand as a logo. When I say Branding, I am not only talking about a logo. Brand Design starts from a spike of inspiration, a color palette, a quote and the mood. A pattern or icon that adds character to your brand. Choosing the right font/typography that portrays the personality of your brand. Branding is discovery of the problem, the pain points, the FAQs and answering them via design! The brand is the foundation of a company and the logo is the visual shortcut to the trademark of the brand.
Unfortunately, businesses fail to recognize the importance of a strategically functional website. After the pandemic people are more inclined to stay at home and shop using their phones. If you have call to actions like “DM to shop/order” believe me you are losing a lot more business than you are getting! People usually don’t have time to wait for replies. If your competitor has a website, guess what, you just lost a customer!
If you want to scale your business then you need a website – this will grow your buyers and revenue. Your website is like your shop/your storefront that is open 24/7.
Hi-Qwerty Studio emphasizes the development of strategy and design to increase sales and revenue, attract dream clients, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.
No one on this earth can do what a great Website and Branding can do for your business, yet so many businesses look at their website as one of the first areas to cut corners!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I have been designing since I was 18. I am a self taught Graphic designer who has worked in the corporate world, as a freelancer and now I own a thriving Branding and Website Design Business – Hi-Qwerty Studio! A passionate design studio curating unique design solutions for your business – helping businesses scale, grow and attract their dream clients! Some stats you might be interested in – 8 years, 90+ Clients and 250 Projects. A lot of my clients ask me about my vision behind naming my business – it’s simple, I wanted something inviting yet professional, something similar and fun like Hey Siri. QWERTY is the first word formed using the top letters on your keyboard. And that is what gave birth to Hi-Qwerty.
Let me tell you this, when I started it wasn’t easy and and still isn’t easy. Till date I have taken multiple courses and have spent countless hours working on my craft. But being a mother of 2 boys (a 9 month old and 4 year old) I have learned some traits that have helped me tremendously! Some of those traits I have internalized over the years are being organized, being patient and multitasking at its finest! At first it was hard getting clients, but as I put my work out there, clients were automatically attracted! Till date I have gained clients by showcasing my work, word of mouth and dm-ing prospect clients!
The process at Hi-Qwerty Studio is a collaborative one, were I the designer and the client work together as a team to firstly discover the problems, the pain points and then finding unique solutions via designing a strategic brand and a functional website. Hi-Qwerty Studio is a one stop solution for all businesses, specializing in bespoke branding and website, print media, SEO optimization, social media management, setting up ads and professional copywriting! Let’s be real, DIY-ing your website and logo might get you a few clients but not a healthy, scalable stream of revenue. Why? There’s no strategy, no design, no thought. Strategy is the core of design, the solution for the problem, your story and a funnel to attract clients/customers,
It has absolutely been a journey for me, starting with no followers, no guidance, no investment. Here I stand 1 year later, extremely proud of myself for jumping all the hurdles that came in my way.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Believe me when I say this, I have read countless books not only about designing but about entrepreneurs and businesses. But there is one book that has given me confidence, guidance and a stable business mindset – that book is “THEY ASK, YOU ANSWER”. I would recommend that book to every business owner. It is not only a book, but they have an informative blog and videos!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
It is really heard designing without purpose and vision and starting out when I had no clients, I was finding a hard time showcasing my work. However, later I discovered briefs or passion projects (@briefclub on Instagram). These are imaginary clients and objectives that a designer follows and uses it to showcase their work. These really helped me grow.
I discovered a heaven for fonts and typography which I was unaware of. It is called Creativemarket.com. A store with a variety of fonts, graphics and templates!
I previously was unaware of how to code websites, but wanted to learn. I came across @Squarestylist – Standout Squarespace course. My designing is on another level now! This course not only taught me how to code but also the business aspects of a design business!
One resource I discovered through the standout course was Notion. Organizing has never been this easy! I use notion to compile all my projects and finances and onboard my clients!
