Helena , appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I think timing is everything. Time allows us space to grow and evolve as individuals and creatives. I believe I started right on time. I was at a point in my career where I was suffering from burn out and needed a creative outlet to express myself. Creating a space where I could share my love for my culture and share my recipes was the key to creating the balance I craved.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Working through the Coronavirus pandemic as a registered nurse was one of the most challenging times of my life. I worked in New York City when it was declared the epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak. I remember coming home from my 12 hour shifts feeling so drained both mentally and physically. Throughout that challenging time, I used cooking as my creative outlet. It gave me a chance to cope with what I was experiencing at work and the challenges that came with not knowing what our future would be like.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best thing society can do to support artists and creatives is to support their work. Purchase their cookbooks, art, classes, and any other product they may be offering that is of interest to you. Share their work with a friend, let them know how much their work has impacted you and provide words of encouragement when you can!
