We were lucky to catch up with Heather Roma Wicks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heather , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
The very first step in moving away from my past life of fashion and marketing was when I saw a photo of two mini burros in front of a vintage trailer. I had to have that for my wedding and when I found it difficult to find beer burros for my wedding, I decided to start my own! This gave me a taste of a life outside of fashion and marketing. After that I started to host women’s retreats on my ranch and 2 years later have started my own branch of the retreat company I previously partnered with.
During that time a course to become a facilitator of mushroom journeys was divinely presented to me. After taking that course, I decided to continue my studies in soul work, psychology and Reiki.
The combination of retreats and these other modalities as well as my goals of adding equine therapy into my healing modalities make for a perfect balance to hone in all of my businesses together offering transformative experiences.
It also doesn’t hurt that I have this beautiful, expansive and grounding ranch in the desert near Joshua tree where I host the retreats and journeys as well as our Airbnb in Topanga Canyon on the creek. It’s so beautiful and magical in both of these places.
Heather , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sacred Woman Collective is pioneering change through wellness retreats and events, a reimagining of yoga retreats into a more holistic experience. The company is at the forefront of a global movement, creating empowering experiences that inspire personal growth and foster a sense of compassion and understanding. Where women feel a deep sense of community and belonging.
We offer weeklong, weekend, one-day, corporate and private retreats where women can embark on a journey of self-discovery, connection, and empowerment, where all walks of life come together in community to support each other.
We believe that by nurturing the spirit of compassion within ourselves and fostering connections based on understanding and empathy, we can create change in the world.
Through collaborations with leading wellness facilitators throughout the world, we create a harmonious blend of mindful activities on retreat, including women’s circles, Council (an ancient form of communicating where we pass a talking stick), healing modalities such as meditation, breathwork, and soundbaths, as well as workshops, mentorship, and heartfelt community building.
It is our hope that this community carries the lessons they learn during our events into their daily lives, spreading kindness and acceptance in their communities.
With Lupasamama, The transformational work begins the moment I meet with my clients. We work to cultivate safety, trust, and openness; the foundations of vulnerability. I assist with setting intentions for the journey ahead, such as connecting with Source, discovering purpose, fostering self-acceptance and joy, and creating more ease in your life. I offer mushroom journeys, microdosing support and mushroom microdosing medicine. I also include integration mentorships with the journeys to help my clients unpack what they’ve learned and set goals for this continued journey ahead.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I always thought that the harder you worked, the more successful you would be. But that’s really not the case. It’s more that when you’re in alignment and in your true authenticity, the more success will flow.
I used to work so hard in fashion, pushing all the time to MAKE things happen. Now I just put my work out there and let the business flow to me. But I also know that I need to be in my highest vibration for that to happen to I am also constantly working on my connection to the universe and to source energy.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I really wouldn’t change anything. We have to go through everything we go through in life in order to land where we are now. Our job is to just follow the clues and pings from the universe in order to do that.
