We were lucky to catch up with Sam Hauser recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Art making is an act of mindfulness. When I’m painting or looking at really great art, the whole world disappears but also feels connected to me simultaneously. In those times I feel the most alive, like I’m communicating with something larger than myself. I think those moments that make you stop and wonder, ignoring all the hustle and bustle, are the ones that really matter. I get that from art, so that’s why I do what I do. Hopefully, I can give others some of those moments through my work and through teaching.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi y’all! I’m Sam Hauser, an artist and designer based in Colorado. I create expressive paintings that combine vibrant color palettes with meticulous painting techniques. My art explores my connection to the land around me and to spirit, or my higher self.
I pretty much always wanted to be an artist, from the time I’d toddle over and choose ceramic glazes for my grandmother in her workshop to the day I had to choose a college path. I attended Maryland Institute College of Art and Studio Art Center’s International in Florence, Italy. I’ve steadily been building my art career and company from there!
I make fine art for your home or office, paint energizing murals in public spaces, and mentor private students. I’d always love to hear from anyone who needs these services or just wants to talk art!

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Oh yeah! I wish I had understood the potential power of social media ten years ago when I was starting out. It’s not everything but I think if I’d mastered it back then, I’d be further along now.
I’m naturally a pretty private person. It took 2020 and a lockdown to force me to open up and start connecting with people online. I’m still not entirely comfortable in front of the camera, but I’m gaining confidence all the time!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Creative industries can be incredibly competitive and exclusive, but they don’t have to be. Art school especially drives the idea of rivalry and that “only one in ten of you will make it.” It took a lot of time and work for me to shed this untruth and realize that there is room for everyone. I love making my art and sharing it. I can’t imagine I’ll ever stop. Even if I never get riches or fame, I’d call that making it!
