We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hattie Windham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hattie below.
Alright, Hattie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on would have to be my resin items and tumblers. I create resin keepsakes and tumbler conversation pieces that are personally crafted for the individual and their story. Each piece is made with sentiments and passion from me observing them in their natural state and my inner passion for creating them. In 2020, after enduring a life threatening event I needed to operate in a purpose that gave me reason to keep going. Other than my children, creating was always apart of me I just needed the direction. I prayed while healing and asked for a sign or two. I had several trials and errors with resin but didnt stop as I did with tumblers and other diy projects. I began to reach out to other amazing individuals via social media to spread positive energy and make them feel what I needed to feel, to be appreciated, to know that my mental well being mattered. When they would allow me to pour into my creations and send them off and their reactions were priceless. I knew then this was apart of my plan. Ever since then Ive been pouring into resin keepsakes, tumblers, apparel, music, poetry and more.

Hattie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Born and raised on the southside of chicago poetry was my first love before becoming a mother I wrote and performed at open mics. Went on to work for various companies in the medical customer service and retail fields. I ended up become a creative from a life threatening event and being blessed to still be here. I didnt think that by having a creative soul, customer service background, working with and for people, would lead me here but it did. I want others to know that I operate with intention, every item is made in a space of positivity, passion, and love. I knew mental health was important but you never know when and if you will personally be effected by it. It means even more to me now that ever. My creations have become my release. So when I execute a project or an item its not rushed, there’s constant communication and follow up as well as follow through showing mockups asking opinions the entire way through. I came up with Humble Designs because I’ve always been behind the scenes, humble, modest, no need for the spotlight and even though my artistry speaks volumes to others I still remain Humble.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being an artist/creative is amazing. You are blessed with an opportunity to view the world and any thing or space through a colorful playful lens
with the free will to do what you please whether it be art music poetry fashion interior design just have your way all while making others happy helping them heal or creating a space where they can do so.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes given the fact that my personal event lead to a percentage of mental illness and other diagnoses my ultimate goal is that wherever my blessings place me in a creative realm that it becomes a point to where I can give back to mental health organizations, create one of my own, or be able to give back so that more resources and centers are available for others.
