We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah R a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I am so regretful that I didn’t start my business earlier. on in my life. As a result, it’s taken me very long to get things going and learn about all the tedious tasks involved in owning your own company! If only someone had given me a nudge – maybe even just one person telling me “you can do this!”. We’re never perfect no matter how much time passes; we should always be pushing ourselves forward because life is too short for regrets.”
When I started my business I was in school studying family medicine, working a job, and planning a wedding and honeymoon. I know, it was a lot at once. If I had started earlier, I would have had more experience in getting the business started off and would have focused more on exposure. I would have tried to put myself and my products out there more. For example, I would have purchased a booth at my local anime convention.

Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Hannah and I’m the founder of Iridescenette, a brand that specializes in selling premium products that are both cute and convenient. As a medical provider by day and anime lover by night, I know what it’s like to be constantly on the go. That’s why I started this business – to provide busy people with products that make their lives a little bit easier and a little cuter!
Because I want to help you create a more positive, happier lifestyle, my products usually focus on a themes such as healing, mental health, or even a cute character from a show you may know! Crafting is the way I cope with stress and heal my soul, so I’m constantly creating new things to help you in this crazy world!
I also pride myself on learning and believe that it’s always important to be learning something new. Therefore, the videos I create are geared towards learning. On my youtube channel, I will provide helpful tips on how to lead the healthiest life possible while also experiencing all that life has to offer us! With videos for every stage in your journey as well as daily encouragement from me-you’ll be able take these skills into any situation without worry or regret once our time together comes around.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I built a lot of clientele and sold a majority of my items on Etsy. However, due to certain events we had to pivot away from using that platform to sell our products. Long story short, I ended up having to rebuild my shop from the bottom and focus more on driving customers to my store. Etsy is a great place to begin because it helps put your items in front of customers. However, if that is your sole form of selling you need to be aware that it can all be taken away with little to no explanation. I recommend having a personal site that you sell your wares from, so that you never have to worry about this. Use Etsy to drive your customers to your website by offering cheaper prices on your website.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the thought that working hard leads to success. Working SMART is what leads to success. Although both tasks are important, it makes more sense for me to focus on creating content and delegating the tasks of secretarial work (answering emails, scheduling appointments, and keeping up with inventory) to someone else. It took awhile for me to realize that I can’t do everything by myself, even if I want to. There’s just not enough time in the day, and it’s always okay to ask for help. It doesn’t make you weak or less of a creator to ask for help.
