We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Haley Easy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Haley below.
Haley, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
About 10 years ago, I had a conversation that changed everything. I was speaking with a supply chain manager about my dreams and aspirations. She could sense from my voice and expression that my current job was just a means to get by. I shared with her how I’d always been a baker since I was young, and how I aspired to turn that passion into a business. I talked about my vision for creating elaborate cake designs and sculptures, something I dreamed of bringing to life one day.
To my surprise, she immediately jumped at the chance to support me, becoming my very first customer! She asked me to bake two sheet cakes for her family event, and I was beyond excited. That moment will forever stay with me—the day someone took a chance on me and my passion. Not only was she my first customer, but she became one of my favorite repeat clients. I’ll always be grateful for her support and belief in me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Since I was young, I always dreamed of creating cake masterpieces. My favorite shows were Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes, along with all the Food Network competitions I used to watch. As I grew up, I began dabbling in baking, knowing that one day I would have my own business. That day finally came when I decided to prioritize my dreams and invest in some baking equipment.
I knew I wanted to bring customers’ visions to life through cake, whether that meant creating something specific with a unique flavor profile or crafting a complex cake sculpture.
One of the cakes I’m most proud of is my Hocus Pocus book of spells cake. It takes me back to the good old days of watching Halloween specials on Disney. I plan to recreate more of my favorite childhood memories through future cakes.
I want my future customers, fans, and followers to know that if there’s a vision or masterpiece you’d love to see turned into cake, please let me know. I’d be thrilled to have the chance to bring your ideas to life.
As an artist, creating something from nothing is deeply meaningful to me. Every opportunity I get to bring an idea to life is incredibly special. I wouldn’t trade being a Cake Artist for anything in the world!
Supporting the arts and local businesses helps keep the arts/creativity alive. Whether through donations, tips, or ordering something as simple as a batch of cookies, every contribution makes a difference.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My reputation in the market is as the ‘cookie and cake lady.’ People know me for my stuffed cookies and delicious cakes. When it comes to baking, you have to pour your heart and soul into every creation. I believe in providing my customers with the finest ingredients and delivering the most flavorful experiences they’ve ever had. Most people recognize me by my smile and my caramel-stuffed snickerdoodle’s.
Building genuine relationships with people—both in and out of business—makes a real impact. Treating customers with respect and care is just as important as the quality of the products you offer.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As an artist, I had to unlearn the habit of comparing myself to others. In both business and art, constantly comparing yourself to others’ achievements is a toxic mindset. We are all unique individuals, so measuring our success against someone else’s will only bring negativity. In the cake and cookie community, I often see artists comparing themselves to one another, which only leads to feelings of depression, anxiety, and self-doubt—none of which are productive for your art or business.
I used to wonder why I didn’t have a huge social media following, but I’ve since accepted that it doesn’t matter. In Houston, Texas, word of mouth is what counts. New customers come to me all the time with cake orders, future visions they want to bring to life, or even just to pick up some snickerdoodles. True happiness comes when you focus on yourself and your business, free of comparison.
Work on your goals and dreams one step at a time, and be kinder to yourself. If you start now, you’ll be glad five years down the road that you took that first step.
