Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Guadalupe Perez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Guadalupe, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
In the photography industry, one of the biggest challenges to profitability is the oversaturation of the market. With the rise of smartphone cameras and social media, everyone’s a photographer these days. This has led to a surplus of photographers competing for a limited number of clients, which drives prices down and makes it harder to maintain profitability.
I recall a story where I was hired to shoot a commercial campaign for a well-known brand. The client had a very specific vision in mind, and I spent hours scouting locations, preparing equipment, and working with the model to get the perfect shot. However, when it came time to negotiate the price, the client tried to lowball me, citing that they could get a similar quality of work from a newer photographer for a fraction of the cost.
This experience illustrates the challenge many photographers face in maintaining profitability. With so many photographers competing for jobs, clients often try to take advantage of the surplus by offering lower prices. This can make it difficult for experienced photographers like myself to earn a living wage, let alone turn a profit.

Guadalupe, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m passionate about commercial photography, and I’ve helped businesses, brands, and influencers in Los Angeles and Orange county grow their image and digital marketing. Starting in Mexico, I honed my skills and eventually shifted my focus to commercial photography. After the pandemic, I saw opportunities in the digital world and created my business to help others grow online, providing top-notch visual content and staying updated on trends. I’m now exploring AI, which has opened doors for growth. I’m proud of my achievements and excited for what’s next. While it wasn’t easy, I thrive on challenges and learning, and I believe many opportunities are on the horizon.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer and creative is the ability to tell stories and evoke emotions through my work. I love the process of collaborating with clients to bring their vision to life, and then seeing the impact that my images have on their audience. Whether it’s capturing a moment that sparks joy, creating a sense of wonder, or simply helping a business connect with their customers on a deeper level, knowing that my work is making a difference is the greatest reward.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients and colleagues. There’s no better marketing than a happy client who shares their positive experience with others. Additionally, my online presence, particularly on Instagram and LinkedIn, has also been a valuable source of new clients, allowing me to showcase my work and connect with potential clients.
