Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Greg And Lacy Harris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Greg and Lacy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My wife and I worked with children and adults with Special Needs as Registered Behavioral Technicians for over 10 years and found ourselves having similar conversations with our families concerning their children’s academics. Many of them mentioned their child’s struggles in school due to various reasons such as large classroom sizes, lack of available support staff, etc. Lacy and I already had the behavioral background training, and decided to create a business by combining our knowledge and skills with a focus on strengthening academic, life, and social aspects of a child.
What some may not know is that We Can Too actually started off with just offering academic help. After researching the various adult services in our area, we seen that there were few resources offered to adults with disabilities here in Las Vegas. We decided to expanded our services to include working with adults with disabilities. We offer help to adults in need on areas in their lives like permit and driving testing, activities in the community, job skills, life skills, and more.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We Can Too is a small business that provides academic tutoring, life skills, and social skills help to children and adults with special needs. We offer our help in a variety of areas such as math, reading comprehension, conversational skills, street safety skills, permit/drivers license testing help, and things of that nature. We absolutely love what we do! Being able to wake up each day knowing we get the chance and opportunity to impact our clients lives in a positive way is what drives us to always give our clients the best sessions! We pride ourselves on providing ethical and quality services to each of our clients.
We feel as if our purpose is to help those who need a little extra help in their life. It is great and rewarding work, and being able to see the progress our clients make is what truly keeps going!
We are so proud of our growth! It’s just the two us that own and operate We Can Too. Our clientele and business relationships has grown so much over the past two years. Good ‘ole word of mouth has helped our growth so much! We are very happy that our business comes highly recommended, majority of our businesses inquiry comes from referrals! We love being a business where families recommend and speak highly of the services we provided.

Have you ever had to pivot?
We actually touched on it a bit earlier in the article in adding our adult divison to our company. What some may not know is that once children turn 18, there are just about a handful of services that continue to help them transition into adulthood. Some are able to attend school for a few years longer, while others look toward the work field. However, what we as individuals and providers have to understand is that, just because a child transitions into adulthood doesn’t necessarily mean that they still could not benefit from additional help. Some may still struggle with communication skills, social skills, etc.
To be a bit more frank, we actually have a client whose family inspired us to initially open our adult division. We began working with this client about 2 years ago, when their mom asked if we would consider working with one of their adult family members. They wanted them to improve their communication and social skills. However, due to the lack of services their family member qualified for due to their age, my wife and I decided to add on another division to aide in the adult demographic. This is where the life and social skills aspect was introduced into We Can Too.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Lacy and myself were actually discussing the other day how word of mouth has been such a valuable resource for us. We feel a lot of pride that our clients are happy with our services, and continue to spread the word about the great work we are doing with our company. We want our families to always feel comfortable and happy with our services. One thing we never want to do is cheat a client out of quality services with ourselves and always show up happy to see them. For ourselves, doing the work that we do doesn’t really feel like work. We are blessed enough to say that we get to work with kids and adults and have fun while helping them reach their full potentials in life. And when families decide to recommend their co-workers, friends, etc, it continues to remind us that we are doing what we love to do.
