We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Grande Zee. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Grande below.
Grande , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My project entitled ‘Shut Up Im Rappin’ was the most meaningful one to me in this phase of life, it was my first project out since I relocated to Florida & this time around not only was I driven by people who genuinely wanted to hear new music from me but I had grew a bigger fan base so not just the people I knew would be listening. Ny night shift crew at the time was the biggest push to put this project together, we would play music at work & one night I played them some unreleased music & they were telling me I need to put it out, but me being my own critic I wasn’t trying to hear that. I pushed it off for a few until I decided to put it in motion some songs were already done & it didn’t take too long to know the direction I was going, finding the right transition was the biggest part because you can have a good project but if it doesn’t flow then it takes away from the value. I got all my songs together & dropped it on my dads birthday, I feel like dropping it on his birthday give it that good luck sprinkle because he was my biggest fan. The project did better than I expected & honestly it just MIGHT be my best work completed.
Grande , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Grande Zee I am a Florida boy now lol but I grew up in good old Waynesboro Georgia, growing up there is part of the reason who I am & where I am on this journey the good & the bad. Growing up here made me resilient, mane you had to have tough skin or either you was gone be walked over & that helped me push through life in any aspect not just music. I’m the middle child and the celebrity of the family lol, I don’t recall what made me start rapping but I do remember ‘I Smell Smoke’ by Mystikal as one of the first songs that I learned like word for word. Once I fully grasped the concept of music it had me in a headlock, I used to record songs off the radio on cassette tapes one of the first songs I ever recorded was on sound record program on an old computer. it wasn’t an easy journey & plenty times I threw in the towel but man when you genuinely love something aint no way you can let it go & even if I never blow up I’ll always make music because that’s something I love to do. I done did a lil acting in this underground production called ‘Country Boyz’ written by Jermaine Williams, I’m currently co-hosting on the restock podcast with my homie pap bonner. I stand behind my brand 100 percent because my brand is me & I am my brand, in some form or fashion the world gotta know who is grande zee or I gotta have the whole world saying shut up & rap.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That the people you know & quote unquote love will be your biggest supporters, in most cases the ones you know will be the last to come in the picture unless they solid. Besides a select few most of the people that’s connected with me are people that I don’t know from a can of paint or people I’ve met by being out & about. The new circle of people I have met support me WAY more than some of them folk that been knew me, I used to trip bout it cause I always supported other folk campaigns but it was never the same when it was my turn but I learned to accept things for what they are, the world way bigger than the folks you know its a whole world of folks waiting on you to blow up so they can support you.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I wanna show my people the life they see when they turn on they tv or get on their phone, I wanna show them we can live the same life as my favorite rapper or they favorite entertainer. I wanna show my mama it’s a world bigger than the city we grew up in I wanna take care of her the way she took care of me. I wanna make sure my sisters straight the way pops would when he was alive, I wanna give my niece & nephews the life I wanted growing up. I wanna be able to live a stress free life a life where I don’t have to worry bout way my next meal gone come from or a life where I gotta decide do I spend my last twenty on food or gas.
