We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Glenn Bolton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Glenn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Yes! Even though there’s less stability (with both money and time), I am happy with the life I’m building as a creative. I’ve spent most of my adult life working regular jobs so there’s no mystery there. I appreciate those days for all the lessons I learned, but ultimately it wasn’t for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey into music started in grade school. I was fascinated with it and wanted to play any instrument I could get my hands on. At age 14, I snuck into my dad’s office and picked up his bass. That’s when things really took off. It was (and still is) like a detachable body part to me. I’ve always been the most in tune with the bass (pun intended).
In 2009, I found myself on a spontaneous move to El Paso where I ended up doing a standup comedy open mic to try and win prize money. Not only did I win, but I realized how much I loved it. After years of doing music and comedy separately, I started combining them.
By 2019, I was living in Hollywood and building a name in the comedy scene as a musical comic. Combining my knowledge of music and production with joke writing and comedic timing, I began carving my own lane in the space.
While a significant portion of my time is spent working on musical comedy, I still do them separately as well. I just produced some tracks for “I Survived Bear Grylls” which premieres May 18th on TBS.
Also, I do the voice of Mel in the movie “The Weird Kidz” which is has been shown in film festivals across the US (Brooklyn Horror Fest, Salem Horror Fest, and Feature Film of the Year at Nevermore Film Fest) and Europe (Midnight selections at AniFilm Festival in Czech Republic and Annecy Film Festival in France). I’m the most proud of this project because of the years of work the small and dedicated crew have put into it. The entire 80 minute film was drawn and animated by hand and made 100% in El Paso.
In a nutshell, it’s safe to say I’m pretty hyphenated at this point.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The process itself is the most rewarding part. From the formation of the idea to receiving the feedback from the audience, I dig all of it. There’s something special about watching what I create take on a life of its own and be experienced by others.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me, it’s all about growth and putting myself in a position to elevate those around me. Also I want to have a house with a fully equipped music room in it. That would be super dope.
