We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gisela Rocha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gisela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Honestly, this didn’t start as some grand business idea. It started out of frustration.
I was just trying to take care of my family. We had just had our first child when my husband was diagnosed with Cancer. Between oncologists and pediatricians I learned so much.
I dove deep into reading every label, questioning everything, going down ingredient rabbit holes at 2am all because I wanted to make sure I had the best for my newborn and my chemo patient. And what I kept running into was this weird gap everything was either “clean” but overpriced and unrealistic for everyday use or affordable but full of stuff I didn’t feel good about putting on my family’s skin. So I did what a lot of us do, I started making things myself.
Nothing fancy, just real ingredients, solving real problems for real people. Magnesium Cream to cut back and eventually replace over use of pain meds. Calendula Balm to soothe and calm eczema and other common skin issues. A huge focus was giving family’s like mine skin solutions that gave them not only peace of mind but also helped them worry less, spend less, over think less! Every mom I talked to was overwhelmed. Busy. Trying to do better, but not trying to complicate their life in the process.
Untamed Naturals is like no other because it’s clean and plant based without the hefty price tag. We’re offering self care without the excessive planning or time commitment. Everyday staples for your family’s every day needs. We aren’t selling you a 13 step skin care routine. We care about reducing your mental load while saving you money and solving your skin needs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m Gisela Rocha, founder of Untamed Naturals, a generational wellness essentials brand built for real life.
I got into this as a mom who was overwhelmed by how complicated and expensive “clean” products had become. Everything felt like too much, too many steps, too many ingredients, too much money. I just wanted products I could trust that actually worked for my whole family. Moms carry a heavy mental load, we’re here to help ease that just a bit.
What started at home quickly turned into something bigger once I realized how many people were dealing with the same frustration. Today, we create bath, body, and skincare products made with clean, intentional ingredients but what really sets us apart is our focus on multi-use.
We design everything so you need less, but get more out of it. One product should work across your household. Our Magnesium Cream isn’t just for one person, it’s for Dad’s back ache, kid’s growing aches and Mom’s restless sleep. Our Calendula Balm replaces multiple harsh products while still delivering real results for everything from bug bites to eczema, scrapes and more.
We focus on three things: peace of mind, affordability, and simplicity.
I’m proud that we’ve grown into retailers like Bristol Farms, Lazy Acres, and Mother’s Market but what matters most is the trust we’ve built. Our growth each year is almost exclusively because of our amazing customers and their word of mouth. As a tiny business we don’t have marketing dollars yet but we do have a %39 return customer rate and that just wows us every day. When families rely on our products daily, that’s the win.
At the end of the day, I’m not here to overcomplicate wellness, I’m here to make it easier to actually live it.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot to date for me personally is when I decided to leave my government job for suds and lavender buds. I was working for a local government agency. I had a pension, full benefits, paid vacation, all of the security we’re supposed to want for ourselves. I have a degree in Philosophy so it made sense that I’d have a real job right? I left that cubicle to pursue being a small business owner when I knew nothing about margins, nothing about sales and logisitcs all I knew was that I wanted to help families like mine. I’m a maker at heart. I love gardening because I can see my plants thrive and grow and multiple. I love to cook delicious meals from scratch and I like to make plant based, good for you and the planet skin and body care because that’s who I am. Leaving that 9-5 was scary and yet so exciting. Once I decided to pivot into entrepreneurship I never looked back.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One thing I really had to unlearn was that more equals better, less REALLY is more and now I’ve built a whole brand around that.
At first, I thought I needed more products, more variety, more everything to be taken seriously. Like if I didn’t have a huge lineup or super elaborate routines, people wouldn’t see the value.
Honestly, that started to feel so fake to me. In my own life I began to value minimalistic living, low waste, reusing and decluttering, in my real life as a mom, I don’t want more steps. More of anything just means more to worry about. I want things that just work and make life easier.
The turning point was seeing how people were actually using my products. They weren’t asking for more, they were asking how to use one thing for multiple needs.
From the start I vowed to stop trying to do the most and started focusing on doing the right things really well. That’s where the whole multi-use approach came from, like one Magnesium Cream for the whole family or a balm that replaces a bunch of other stuff. There are brands who have a Lip Scrub, a Foot Scrub, a Booty Scrub, a Body Scrub and they want you to waste your money on all of that but we’re like hey, try this scrub that can be used for all those things. Spend less, waste less, worry less, do more.
Now I’m very intentional about not overcomplicating things, even if that means going against what the industry says you “should” do.
And honestly, that shift made my brand stronger and my life a lot less chaotic too.
