We recently connected with Gila Moonstar and have shared our conversation below.
Gila, appreciate you joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
Living full-time as a drag entertainer/artist is definitely one that takes tenacity, creativity, and both social and soft skills. It is a very social profession whether in person and online. You really have to connect with an audience like any other performer, but drag now has this expectation to shock, be glamorous, and bring in fun! Having a career in opera and musical theatre before drag really allowed me to gain more experience in many aspects of this and more. Now I am able to not only produce my own shows and collaborate with venues, but I have gained friendships and many business relationships over the year that has allowed me to get re-booked for many different gigs and keep a consistent schedule each month to earn the majority of my income through drag.

Gila, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
HELLO UNIVERSE, IT’S GILA MOONSTAR! The glittery and gorgeous GLAMPSTRONAUT is finally here baby.
This cosmically creative queen is always serving you some sickening singing vocals, fabulous fun looks, and viciously versatile lipsync experiences!
Gila is an internationally renowned Indonesian-American Denver based drag queen that strives to serve top notch entertainment and excellence. You may walk away from a Gila Moonstar performance saying “I don’t know what hell that was, but it sure was fun”!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The personal feeling of a successful performance, as it is only 1 percent of the actual moment to realize that and 99% preparation.
Also the ability to touch and connect as an artist with your audience and them having the courage to share that in an interaction with you afterward.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Artistic evolution and spreading a uniquely entertaining fun point of view with my drag.
