We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gevorg Shahbazyan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gevorg, thanks for joining us today. Please tell us about starting your own firm and if you’d do anything different knowing what you know now.

Unique buildings across our globe always intrigued me, especially the contemporary architecture and the construction itself. From Miami to Monaco, Vienna to Dubai, and New York to Shanghai. I have always traveled and had seen beautiful buildings from childhood, and that curiosity was embedded in me. As a teen growing up I realized that I was destined to build such buildings later in my life. Now as a Real Estate Broker and Developer, not only do I get to see amazing buildings/interiors across the world but also to build. I may not be the best or most famous developer in the world but I am confident that my name will be known soon with the projects that I am working on now.

Scaling up was the hardest, with numerous challenges but one way to overcome such hardships was a trust of a single investor, and belief in me and my project. I worked extremely hard only on one investor compared to many to find them. Eventually, I was lucky to gain the trust of a single investor, who worked with me to develop our first project which was a huge success. We doubled our initial investment. With such an experience already under my belt, finding the next investor became easy with word of mouth. Our firm works with numerous investors now, both private, commercial, and institutional.

One piece of advice that I would give to a young professional who might be interested in starting their own Real Estate Development is to trust your gut feeling. We would love to partner up with larger firms and provide internship/mentorship opportunities for young professionals.

Gevorg, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
