We were lucky to catch up with GEORGE SALVANS recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi GEORGE, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
The ability to reach your goals in life, whatever those goals may be, its important to all of us. So what do you do in order to achieve those goals?? Do you follow habits from successful people? Do you work harder than anyone else? Do you sacrifice your quality of life to reach your goals? There is no single right way to be successful. What works for you might not work for someone else. There may not be a perfect combination of ingredients that can guarantee success, but there are some basic steps you can follow that can improve your chances of being successful in life, love, work, or whatever happens to be important to you.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My Name is George Salvans, Born in Acapulco, Mexico. All my family has been and owned business in the service/tourism (restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, travel agencies, etc), and naturally i moved in that direction also. To make a long story short, worked in the restaurant scene for over 20 yrs and came up with our catering concept while visiting family in Cancun. We are one of the only companies in the DFW area that does what we do. We are a Mexican Catering company that cooks all food on site fresh for you and your guest. All other precook all the foos and bring it to your event just to serve. It takes a little more time and work to do it the way that we do, but its the reflection of our love to our guest. All we do are Tacos…and have been doing it for over 9 yrs now, voted #1 On site Mexican catering company for 5 yrs in a row. That must mean that we are doing something right as we do over 400 events per year.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One can spend hundreds, thousands or event million of dollars to promote, or build a brand/business. We have made our service, our product and our staff do all the advertising for our brand. Word of mouth is something you can not buy, if people like what you do, they will tell other people with out you spending any money. That is the best advertising anywhere, We take every event that we do seriously and if its the only one that maters…why?? because it its. ever event is special for our guest, that its a birthday party, a retirement, a wedding, a house warming, a grand opening o f a business. If its an important event for our guest, it HAS to be important to us. Our clients and our staff is whats important in our company. We keep our staff happy, they will make our clients happy.
Any advice for managing a team?
Your staff is a reflection of you. Your staff is one of the most important pieces of your company. In the service industry, if you have people who don’t care, who are just there as a cold body and cranky….you wont succeed. As we all know, a business owner you have to be able to play several roles. As a leader of your staff you also have to be… 1. A business owner. 2. A Friend 3. A psychologist 4. and may other roles…lol It is important that your staff feels comfortable with you and at the same time know that they are there to perform and be an extension of you. They have to treat clients, the way you would do it. Hopefully if you trained them well and picked the right people for the job, they will o just that.
