We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gary Lazard Jr.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gary below.
Gary, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
In 2010, I was in Houston jobless and depressed because I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. My goal was to play college basketball and see where that was going to take. The only school that recruited me I didn’t have the grades to get accepted to the school. 4 months after that happen, I gave up on the dream of playing basketball. Once that happened, I felt that I was going down a hole and could not get out of. Once I felt like I was at the bottom I thought it was time to build my relationship with God so I got baptized December 5th, 2010. Once that happened, my life started picking up from being able to go back to school and be able to transfer to Texas A&M University-Commerce and getting a Master’s at Southern Methodist University. I just always tell myself never get yourself back in that hole that I was in. I made sure so I picked up many things from photography, to dj, and to starting a podcast with my brothers from Grad School.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into Dj from just being at parties & kickbacks just playing music and I told myself what if I put my own flavor into playing music. So I reached out to my cousin who is a DJ as well and I asked if he could show me the way. I shadow him for a year and then I went to stepping out on my own. The satisfaction I get from DJ is when I see everyone having a good time, that just lift my spirit up. The podcast came from me just having conversation with my friends after class and we were like I know people want to hear what we say so that where Grad School Bros came about. From that I just like the feeling when someone who hear the podcast and can relate to what we are talking about.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Doing what you love to do and having it as your career.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For my podcast Grad School Bros. I would like to build an empire from there but as for right now just getting sponsorship for me and brothers.
When it comes to Dj I just want to be on world tour so I can be the reason everyone has a good night for one night in their life.
