We recently connected with Marien Lorenzo and have shared our conversation below.
Marien, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is simple: It is to keep pets out of shelters through the education of pet parents. During the 15 years I spent in the veterinary medical field I realized there was a huge disparity in the information that trickled down to your average pet parent. From behavior to nutrition to preventative medicine, there was so much I could help with if I made the jump from clinic technician to business owner. In the past 5 years I have been very lucky to have opportunities to work with clients on all sorts of cases from aggression and anxiety all the way to service pets for those in need. I have a passion for saving animals on and off the surgery table and it shows through my continued studies; I strive to always stay up to date on the latest scientific research.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I fought so hard to be here today. I started as a night shift receptionist who would stay overnight at the veterinary emergency hospital just to be able to document wild cases. Then I started coming in, in the mornings to make lists of all the medicines different names and learn from the lab technician how to work all the machines. I only got paid for the reception work; but they noticed my determination and rewarded it once a spot opened up on the team. You have to be hungry for the information that you want. Nowadays I set myself apart from other “dog trainers” in that I look at behavior from a medical standpoint as well. I don’t just say “your dog needs more exercise” I explain how to engage their minds and work with them so they can integrate as a part of your family. I also teach my clients about the benefits of healthy meals for your pets and make my own raw dog food and dehydrated treats. I will be your biggest cheerleader in this because I know what it takes to raise a well rounded pup. I offer private lessons in your home or boarding and training from mine.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency. I made a name for myself as a hard worker and someone who was often requested to work at different clinics around Miami. If I say I will be there, you better believe it to be true.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Always showing my clients I will go the extra mile for them has resulted in a steady stream of referrals and I am eternally grateful for them.
