We were lucky to catch up with Gareth Campbell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Gareth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
I feel the world has diverged from true gratitude for the little things in life, but I have not. One of the things that matters a lot to me is putting in effort within any type of relationship to show you care, no matter how small it might seem. A romantic partner made a sandwich for me one day and it felt so special. I thanked them and really enjoyed that sandwich, but the feeling of love that gave me was profound and stuck with me for months. I would periodically thank them when I reminisced about it’s deliciousness. In general, when I thank someone for something, it is not just a fleeting nicety, it’s legit.

Gareth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Currently, I have charted internationally and domestically on iTunes, won multiple awards, and have been recognized by many nominations, and been on the Grammy ballot.
Looking back, I began my musical journey in 4th grade when I started playing viola. I was dubbed somewhat of a prodigy and would always bring home top marks from competitions and performed in orchestras way above my age level.
Something that sets me apart from a lot of people is during my musical development, I began writing parodies to songs I would hear on the radio. I have a natural ability for improvisation in music and theatre settings, and incorporate wit and humor into both when appropriate.
Once I started singing, writing, and releasing music in 2020, my world opened up. I released an EP in April 2024 that further freed my mind of some musical constraints after working with the session musicians. It allowed me to push the envelope even further with my own creativity.
I offer session work for vocals, song writing, viola, electric and acoustic guitars, as well as any synth program. I offer production services to clients., from recording vocals and instruments to mixing and mastering.
I am proud of my ability to continually learn and push the boundaries of creation. If you work with me, the music will shine.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I feel people might not understand how therapeutic creating music can be and also, how much work and effort goes into a song. Sure a song sounds good or has catchy lyrics, but a lot of people do not understand what goes into what they hear. It is not fast or easy.
Something I am finding out about my own music, is how much more connected people feel to my music when they hear the story behind the lyrics.
Tying these two ideas together… with independent song writing, first the artist goes through an experience and has to do the emotional work to convert that into lyrics and music. This is step 1 of the therapeutic process.
Once the song is written, the key, tempo, and overall nature of the song is decided, then the musicians get a copy of the work tape and spend hours developing their parts and writing charts. Next, they spend hours in the studio recording those parts and finding ways to provide extra style or pizzazz.
It is then the artist’s turn to record vocals to the track. This is step 2 of the therapeutic process where you can experience the necessary feelings to bring emotion to the song. Next the mixing and mastering process can take hours to fine tune the song for commercial release.
Embedded in all this are the years of work everyone involved has put into their craft. Nothing about truly creating music is fast or easy and it should never be that way. It would lose the soul underneath it.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I would love it if people would reach out and talk to me. Ask me about songs they like, develop that business client relationship. It feels soulless making posts and seeing people look at them, but the true connection that music provides just isn’t there.
Also, in an electronic world, society needs to buy artists songs, merch, and albums as well as use streaming services (not Spotify). Streaming spreads the music for listening, but pays very little. Buying the songs, albums, merchandise at shows or on website, and tipping at shows, really helps.
Society also needs to push for transparency with Ai or ignore it’s use all together in creative arts. All creative industries have a soul and if you have ever seen something created with Ai, it lacks that.
