We recently connected with Gabbi Music and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabbi , thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I’m a person who needs goals in my life, something that I work towards to. I’ve overcome many obstacles in life, because I have ability to think outside of the box and I have determination to search for the solution, until I succeed.
Few years ago I drifted to a situation, and I didn’t know how to go on. I felt that I was trapped not only in my professional but also in my personal life. I had accomplished professionally pretty much everything I wanted. My personal life was also in crisis after very hurtful divorce. I had to come back to the basic question in my life: What makes me happy, and why?
I’ve also trusted my gut in many decisions in my life. I believe that I know, when something is good for me. I also believe, that I have a power to make my life how I like it to be. So if I’m not happy, I make a change. That’s how I ended up to beautiful Los Angeles, California and finally received permanent resident status. Here I feel excited about all the opportunities, sunshine and new point of views. Every morning is a new chance and a new possibility to enjoy life.
I started Gabbi Music Entertainment LLC three years ago. It was a start for an interesting new era in my life. I’ve always before worked for someone else. As an entrepreneur I have a power to make my company how I like it to be but I also have a lot of responsibilities. If I don’t make things happen, nothing will happen. On the other hand I can choose what I want to do and when. It takes a lot of courage and determination.
It hasn’t been easy to get to this point. When I moved to LA almost 5 years ago, I came to study music business to UCLA Extension music business program. It was a long process to get a permanent resident status and get a working permit. Until that I wasn’t able to work, because I wanted to obey all the laws and rules. When I got my legal status I had possibility to start planning. So my company is still in process.
It has taken a lot of determination to get where I am today. I’m still not finished. There’s always way to go. That’s exciting and inspiring.
So in other words, I’ve worked most of my life for other people and in one job at the time. Entrepreneurship gives me a chance to use my skills in many levels and do every day what I want to do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The whole point to start my own company was, that I wanted to use all my skills. I have experience from many different areas and I wanted to explore more. I can now gather all my skills under the umbrella of my company. By this far I do several things: * I teach in Finnish school in Los Angeles music and Finnish language
* I teach Finnish language for private students
* I’m substitute teacher in elementary schools in Los Angeles area
* I perform as an artist, singer, violinist and pianist
* I’m professional high fashion makeup artist and hairstylist for Soona and for private clients
* I’m graduated eyelash technician and beauty professional
* I’m almost graduated EMT
* I’m professional model
* I’m professional violin, piano and vocal teacher
* I’m also certified IHSS (home care) provider
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I’m still a single member in my company but over the years I’ve worked in a big company as a managing director so I know how to work with a big team. As a leader I find it the most important thing that you’re available for your staff, make them heard. I also always make sure that my staff knows what I’m expecting from them. It’s important to maintain trust in both ways. I always want to evolve as a leader.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think my whole story is a story of resilience. I think every start is a try and fall. And my motto is that if you fall, learn and try again. Giving up is not an option. Resilience means to me that how you recover from setbacks. Starting my business is trying and learning. I don’t think I’m ever finished. That’s the salt of the whole story.
