We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Frances Rose Padunan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Frances Rose, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
SB0811 Films is a Las Vegas film production company focused on quality storytelling, striking visuals, and innovative design. My company covers award-winning short films, commercials, music videos and live events, and new media content. My company name SB0811 stands for my late mother and before she passed away, I promised her that I will become a successful respected filmmaker/director/writer/producer and with everything that I do, I will do for her. My mother has inspired me in so many ways and has always loved and supported me. I’d like to keep her legacy alive by representing her name with all the projects I create.
In recent years, Frances Rose Padunan CEO and founder of SB0811 has made a concentrated push into advertising/branding, working with many creatives, internationally. She works along side with a well known film composer who lives in Milan, Italy name Davide Perico. She works along side with her film crew, JTC. They are a production company as well in collaboration with her. She produced many short films, commercials, events, theatrical trailers, main title design, social media videos such as a Versace Ad and has produced a world wide competition event called the 48 Hour FIlm Project. Sb0811 will continue to do more work in the future and collaborate with more creatives out there!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Frances Rose Padunan was born in Batac, Philippines to Susan Balatico and Aga Padunan. Her mother, a Filipina American is from Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father is known to be President Marcus’s personal body guard. She was born in Batac, Philippines but only lived there until six months old and then moved to the United States. Padunan began acting lessons at the age of thirteen. Soon after, she became obsess with theater and wanted to learn everything about the arts. However, acting was just the start. She prefers to direct and produce films. She is an independent film maker who has won 6 awards with 9 nominations. She continues to follow her passion and to hopefully work with Christopher Nolan one day. A director that she had always admired. She wants to make a big impact on many peoples lives and inspire other female directors out there.
As a kid, I loved and enjoyed stories told visually. The first film I remembered watching was Titanic. James Cameron inspired me in so many ways. He created Titanic with the most beautiful and intricate details and he was the first inspiring director I looked up to and still do.
I got into theater soon after and became obsess with the crafts since then. Eventually, I wanted to learn more about film. Another director I strongly look up to is Christopher Nolan. I have studied his work and could relate with his work. Now I am an independent filmmaker based in Las Vegas that has won a few awards under my belt with the intention of collaborating with more artists out there.
My mantra when it comes to conflict on filmmaking? Well, I know that moviemaking is problem solving. During the filming and editing of every single scene, there will be unforeseen problems that need to be sorted out. From actors’ conflicting shooting schedules to crew members that inadvertently wind up in the shot: complications are an integral part of the filmmaking process. I learn to always have a plan A,B,C,D,E,F, etc .. if plan A doesn’t work out there will always be another plan that I can execute. I learn of what I have to work on with each film that my team and I have created. In the end of each films I have created, I reflect on what needs to be worked on and will use that as a learning experience.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
To be authentic with yourself and to let others know my clear intentions.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining a high morale is to try to understand everyone’s values and to be as transparent with your team as much as possible. You should always invest in trust and to have a good rapport with your team by creating an open line of communication where they feel comfortable speaking to you and vise versa. I would organize team meetings and recognize all of the hard work that they bring. I do take mental health seriously and want to make sure my team is mentally okay. Due to stress and anxiety outside of filmmaking, it is highly important to pay attention and prioritize there mental health. After all, we are all humans dealing with personal life situations that no one knows about. Encourage your team to take on new responsibilities, and give them time to work on there own passion projects or development courses as well.
