We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fiona Joi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fiona below.
Fiona, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
There was a defining moment when Fiona entered into motherhood that completely changed the trajectory of her practice as a yoga instructor and wellness coach. The moment she got home with her little she was in an entirely different world. She realized she personally never made space for the world she was in and neither did much of society. She knew in that moment she needed to purpose herself fully to her children. Learning as much as she could about navigating medical truths, managing physical recovery as well as mental health. She asked herself a simple question. “How can I use my gifts to encourage and support other women and men in my current season of life ?” She then devoted not just her yoga practice to mothers and families ; she rebranded her entire platform to support her educated beliefs and the community that deeply needs the support system it provides.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Fiona Joi was introduced into yoga at the age of 21 as an extra way to release energy and emotions outside of ballet. After getting licensed with YTT she decided to develop her own practice and teach others what she had become so deeply connected to. Through discipline and dedication she turned her practice into a 6 figure business. Taking on athletes , olympians and corporate business owners/employees all over the southeast. What sets her apart is how committed she is to her clients and their experience. She goes above and beyond to learn about them and connect with them individually to ensure they reach their personal goals. Fiona is most proud of her ability to stay authentic to who she is at the core. Fiona wants anyone influenced by her to know she is forever green and growing. She is forever working on herself so she can show up informed and strong to everyone looking to connect with her.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Fiona doesn’t just give advising that she learned in a book. She has personally faced adversity that required her to be resilient and put her practice to the test. During her first pregnancy, Fiona was struck on the highway by an 18 wheeler truck. She went from hiking everyday , doing yoga everyday and juggling clients /gigs to nothing. She was suddenly disabled and unable to do the smallest task for herself. This forced her to push through distress , disappointment, depression and complete disconnection from the outside world. She embodied the student and teacher inside herself.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being a yoga instructor and wellness coach goes well beyond training or any book a person could read. Yoga is a lifestyle. Health and wellness is a lifestyle. Both require you to transform from the inside out. The food you eat. The drinks you drink. The activities you participate in. As well as the energy you surround yourself with. You have to be intentional about connections with others. You have to be devoted even when it doesn’t pay off.
