We were lucky to catch up with Felicia Wilson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Felicia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
We believe in supporting our community and nonprofit organizations that support families. This is our way of giving back and honoring the organizations that partner with CareTalk. If a church or other nonprofit organization hosts one of the workshops, we will donate 5% of the proceeds to the organization.
Felicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am from a small city in Alabama. Growing up, I was surrounded by my loving family, which included my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Most of my childhood memories include time spent doing regular things with my family. My mom was a certified nursing assistant. for most of my life, she worked in a long-term care facility. She was dedicated to her patient’s well-being. I believe being exposed to long-term care early in life, planted seeds for my career path. After completing my graduate degree, I worked as a director of social services in a nursing home.
CareTalk is a full-service agency focused on two main areas, counseling adults and educating seniors and families on family caregiving issues. I am excited to offer services specifically for older adults and their families. In many cases, older adults are left to figure things out for themselves. As one grows older, a lot of changes occur from financial to mental and physical. At CareTalk, we offer counseling and coaching services to help older adults thrive. Another focus for our agency is helping family caregivers understand and manage issues related to family caregivers. Many middle-aged adults are faced with caring for their aging parents as well as managing their minor children. we have a strategic educational program that helps family caregivers understand and manage the process. In addition, we offer counseling services to family caregivers.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Starting a business requires a lot of patience and pivoting. Over the past few years, I’ve had to pivot a few times. The biggest pivot was not promoting my workshop when I finished with the content due to COVID. Of course, everything was shut down. But, in hindsight, it allowed me to refine the content and make it better.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being genuine and willing to share tips has helped my reputation. Also, having documented experience with the population that I serve. Many times, people will say “you really know your stuff”. That’s because I had decades of experience. So, I really do understand my craft.
