We recently connected with Ethan Healey and have shared our conversation below.
Ethan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Probably my sophomore year in high school. I started noticing some of peers around me getting to thinking about their future in a more serious way & what they kind of wanted out of life. Obviously it’s really hard to figure who you are at 16 let alone what you want to do the next 40 years of your life.
Growing up we were really broke. I have 8 siblings & sharing 2 bedroom apartments in some rough neighborhoods didn’t set the bar too high. I didn’t care what I did, I just knew I wanted to be happy. I had started writing songs at that time & selling beats to kids around my town & online. I was 18 living off beats & recording artists out my parents basement & downtown St. Louis.

Ethan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first got into music when I was 14 or 15. I downloaded garage band onto my phone & was messing around with it. I just liked the idea the way certain keys or patterns could make you feel. I’d say that was when I first started producing music, but I’ve been playing guitar & writing songs since I was around 9 or 10.
Since then I have learned to mix & master music, as well as record & produce for countless artists. Collaborating with creatives 1 on 1 is such a beautiful thing. It can take the stress of working alone on something as personal as music, and create a safe space where judgement isn’t a factor. I often leave sessions knowing more about the artist & myself.
I’m proud of all the work I do, I’m proud that the extension of myself that I give out is not there not just for me, but for everyone.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Sometimes, I’ll have these moments. I could be in the store, walking outside, doing the dishes, etc. whatever. But there are some lines or songs that just come to me out of the blue. It’s like magic, actually. No, It is magic.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience mainly through word of mouth & posting casually online. I think what most people get wrong is they will try to copy other peoples content & personality. My advice? Just be you. You’ll be fine as long as you are bringing you’re personality to the table with your media.
