We were lucky to catch up with Estefania Peynetti recently and have shared our conversation below.
Estefania, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Moving to Miami, to new country. Starting my business all over from scratch is a very crazy risk I took. For somebody who doesn’t like change, lived in the same city, have the best friends since I was a kid. I still can’t believe I did this. About a year ago I moved from Mexico City to Miami, and my business moved with me. I started let them have cake from scratch from my parents kitchen in 2014. I grew my business slowly for9 years in Mexico but the pandemic and the countrys situation hit hard. I didn’t see my business going where I wanted to go. I took a huge risk and invested in renting space here and began the remodeling process which took two years, a year ago I moved here to work on getting ready and now 3months ago I Finally opened let them have cake miami. Ithaca been tough learning many things in a new country and trying to start over and get new customers from scratch but everyday we see progress!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It started with a small cupcake in Mexico.
Let Them Have Cake is a boutique pastry atelier that specializes in personalized couture cake designs with unique & realistic hand-crafted details using only the best ingredients available.
I specialize in Wedding cakes and sugar flowers but my business creates personalized experiences, cakes, cupcakes and more!
Born in Mexico City, from Italian descent,I always had a great admiration for the arts and design, loving painting, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture. However, I did not feel it was my path, so I began to get more and more involved in my long-time hobby, baking, I quickly realized this was my true passion and wanted to “Let them have Cake”. Deciding to pursue my passion professionally in 2014 I founded Let Them Have Cake selling cakes and cupcakes from home and went on to learn about French pastry, at the root where pastry began, Paris, France at Ecole Alain Ducasse.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
By the end of high school I had no idea what to study, I went into industrial design for a week, then switched to graphic design and after a semester i went to architecture school. It was very hard for me to know what i wanted, i knew it had to do with art but i couldn’t find what specifically. eventually i finished architecture school never liking it but i knew i at least got a diploma. Of course after that i realized now i had to work in that and i hated it. so I started giving more time to my new hobby baking…. and thats when I fell in love in bringing together baking and delicious cakes with art and cake decorating.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Your hobby becomes your work, your de-stressing becomes your work. Its very fulfilling to use your imagination and be able to physically create something beautiful for somebody else.
