Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erinn O’neill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erinn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The most significant risk I ever took was breaking up with Alcohol, aka getting good and sober one day at a time, by entering rehab on July 23, 2019.
I had no idea if this would “work,” fix me, help me, or save me from the hell I was in, but honestly, I had run out of options, and my people were getting sick and tired of my drinking as well. Something had to change, and thank God, it led me to such utter despair that rehab felt like a good idea.
I hated rehab. HATED, I remember thinking, how did I get here and whether I would ever get out? I was just so very sad; I missed my children, cried myself to sleep most nights, and clung to their sweet letters, pictures, and daily calls as my reminder I had to survive this and get home. Just get me home.
Rehab was also the first time in years that I faced life on life’s terms, without a drink in hand, and that was a bit of a shock to the system, to put it lightly. I was ill-equipped to do this human thing and had some profound healing and soul-searching ahead of me.
To make a long story short, as I write this, I am blissfully five years, six months, and four days sober. This worst day and season of my life (entering rehab) has become the cornerstone of a life I did not dare nor dream of as possible for me. Honestly, I often cry tears of joy that I get to experience this, life on the other side of alcohol, live this, be this, and here’s the real kicker, — I get to help others achieve the same. My greatest pain and lowest moment to date has become my highest calling and passion; thank you, God. I am the luckiest.
Erinn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am madly in love with sobriety and the innumerable benefits this wildly good alcohol-free lifestyle (done correctly) offers in abundance.
To that end, I am a proud and passionate host of the 2 Sober Girls Podcast with my glorious co-host, the beloved Michaela Horvathova. We talk about everything—I mean everything—related to living life to the absolute fullest without alcohol. Our conversation is raw, honest, and funny, and I pray we inspire anyone and everyone desiring to embody their highest health and happiness. This is your one precious life, so why not go for it ALL!!!!?
I also have the pleasure of co-leading the Sober Girl Mastermind Community. With weekly live meetings, coaching drops, daily check-ins, and more, this is the place to get your sober on with the coolest women, if I do say so myself.
Of course, I am forever indebted to my 12-step secret society, which saved my life. I am a grateful and active AA member, attending weekly meetings, and have the honor of sponsoring several incredible women. I love that the steps provide a spiritual solution to every problem. They are simple, semi-magical, and work.
Also, I take great pride in coaching my private, alcohol-free clients. With a background in health and wellness, I am turned on by a person’s unlimited potential to create a radically new lifestyle and identity on the other side of the drink. After all, alcohol was getting in the way; once removed, oh my goodness, the places we can go when it comes to our physical, spiritual, and emotional health are, well, mind-blowing. I love being on this adventure with anyone brave enough to begin; nothing thrills me more.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Oh, yes. There are many. I am always learning, seeking help, and enrolled in some course or mastermind, and I always will be.
Presently, I am learning from the best, Andy Ramage, and his Training and Coaching Institute as part of his Alcohol-Free Performance Coaching cohort. It has been incredible, and I cannot believe how much I’ve learned and already been able to implement with our Mastermind community, podcast, and private clients! It is a significant win and boost and is always worth it when aligned with your niche and calling.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
It was a divine appointment.
I met Michaela at a wellness pop-up event in my area. I was already at the event when Michaela walked in, and I felt God tap me on the shoulder to connect with her and to meet her. I knew we would be doing something “wellness-y” work together. I had no idea what, but I did know that when God calls you to action, you do it.
Soon after our initial meeting, 2 Sober Girls was born as we just organically and passionately could not stop talking about how much we love sobriety, our radically different while also similar paths and approaches to putting down the drink, and how passionate we feel that everyone deserves to live a life free from alcohol.
We just recorded our 122nd episode, and I don’t believe we have stopped talking since that divinely appointed day. When it is meant to be, well, it will be, and it will feel like home.
