Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erin Richardson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
In the fifth grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability in the areas of reading and math. I was performing on a second or third grade level in the fifth grade. I struggled and was just not doing well academically. In the 6th Grade, during one of my many IEP meetings, my mom was told that it would be in my best interest to be on the academic track to receive a certificate of completion, rather than a high school diploma, and the one thing that my parents did RIGHT, would be disagreeing with them. There were forms that needed to be signed by my parents and a host of other things that they needed to do in order for me to be on that track, come high school. My parents said NO and for that I am thankful. They did right by me then and now.
I would have never made it this far in life or especially my career without them believing in me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Yes, so I’m Erin. I’m a mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend. and by day I’m a Social Worker and Certified Life Coach. I work in the mental health field and I do everything in my power to help my clients help themselves.
I knew from grade 10 that I wanted to be a social worker, specifically in the mental health field. In the 10th grade I had a conversation with a homeless guy about how he got to where he was, and he explained that he was a teacher, and lost his job, and soon after his wife left him, and then he lost everything else; being his home and then car, where he was sleeping, soon after. He stated that he lost his job due to his untreated mental health diagnosis, and not being honest with himself about what was going on with him mentally. I knew then that I was going to in some way, shape, or form assist individuals with their mental health, and helping them help themselves.
I became a Life Coach for the same reason. I keep that man’s story with me in everything, knowing that in my career I can help someone just like him, before it got to the place where he was, Homeless and feeling helpless.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If I could go back I would absolutely choose the profession I’m in. I believe that it is my mission in life to help others become a better them.
