We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erica Coppola a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have been suffering from mental health challenges due to PMDD since I was a teenager. It became even worse and more difficult to manage during Covid so I finally decided to seek help from my doctor and do my own research. I finally was able to put a name(PMDD) to what I have been suffering from for all these years. I have turned my whole life around since my official diagnosis in 2020. I take Zoloft 25 MG every day as prescribed by my doctor to help manage my anxiety/depression. I also practice meditation, journaling, yoga, and self-care, see a therapist regularly and am taking vitamins and supplements. My mission is to spread awareness, spark conversation, and help others like myself who are suffering in silence or not sure of where to turn.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always been interested in writing. I always dreamed of writing my own book someday and becoming an author. I never thought I would be able to do it or that it would be fairly simple. Through my own research, I wrote my first self-published book. It was released in May 2021 and is entitled “Ever Powerful.”(the meaning behind my name) I had an amazing proofreader and cover designer from a freelance website I discovered called Fiver that helped turn my dream into a reality. My book talks about my life, trials, tribulations, and struggles with mental health. I started an Instagram/blog in February of this year(ever-powerful warriors) to share inspirational quotes, and messages. I have even featured some people who are passionate about mental health.women’s health on my blog as well.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I never knew that becoming an author was pretty simple and affordable. Through my own research, I found out about Kindle Direct Publishing and was able to turn my dream of becoming an author into a reality(while being a recent college graduate that was still looking for a full-time job) Fiverr is an amazing resource that helps you to connect with freelancers. I found amazing people to help me with designing my first blog/website, promoting my book, etc. Again, I came across this by doing my own research.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to help anyone that I can who is struggling with mental health issues. I want them to come across my content and feel comforted, less alone, and maintain hope that things will get better. My Instagram/blog following has been growing slowly but surely. It has been great to connect with others that are passionate about the issues that I am or that are suffering as well. If I can help one person, I feel fulfilled and happy. It’s all about paying it forward and making an impact.
