We recently connected with Eric Dixon and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Eric thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve ever made was myself. I’ve invested well over 10 thousand hours and a countless amount of money into me. As an artist and as a person. Whether it’s been towards my craft or my personal development. As an artist, we spend a lot of money on art supplies. I’ve bought supplies just to test along with my staple supplies. I love the feel of different paper, picking up differences between brands and trying new products. I remember I use to keep up with the amount of money I spent. I wasn’t making a lot of money, so I tried to budget. After a while I realized the money didn’t matter. Just my love for what I’m working on.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Eric Dixon. I’m an artist from NC. I’ve been practicing art since I was six years old. I started drawing to coup with moving away from my hometown in Wilmington,NC to Raleigh, NC. After I started drawing I feel in love with art. I would stay up all night and draw all day. I would get in trouble for drawing in class. I would carry nothing but art supplies in my book bag. I later played sports and suffered an injury that made me take art more seriously. I went to a technical school where I studied 3D animation and digital art. There I learned how to hone my craft as an artist. I would spend my time with other artist soaking up as much info and tips as I could. Some years later I got into the art scene in Raleigh, NC. 14years later I am still blessed to have opportunities to display my work.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think somethings non-creatives struggle to understand about my creative journey is that creating is a need for me. If I go for a period of time with drawing, sketching, creating artwork I don’t feel like myself. Creating for me is a release of thoughts and emotions. I can look back at old artwork and remember how I felt or what I was going through. I enjoy how I feel after creating something that had been floating around in head.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think NFT’s were cool when they came out. I understood the value it brought to collectors and artist. Now I am 100% down for artist to continually get paid for their work. If the original purchaser sells the work and the work gained value. why shouldn’t the artist get a percentage? Right? But somewhere I think the market became over saturated. I don’t even know if it is still a thing.
