We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Enmy Fournier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Enmy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my photography business grew naturally out of my life experiences and passions. As a scientist, I’ve always been curious about moments and attention to details, the way light shifts throughout the day, how expressions change in a split second, or how small details tell a bigger story. This curiosity is what led me to buy my first camera, initially to document my travels around this country. Photography became my way of freezing moments that I wanted to hold onto forever.
When I found out I was going to be a mom, that love for capturing memories took on a whole new meaning. I wanted to preserve every little detail of my son’s life, the way his tiny fingers curled around mine, his first smile, and all the milestones in between. It was during this time that I began practicing more with my camera, not just to capture his moments but to refine my skills and tell a story through every shot.
Eventually, I realized how meaningful these memories were, not just to me but to other families too. I wanted to offer a service that combined my scientific attention to detail with the emotional depth of motherhood a way to document real, authentic memories for other people in a way that felt personal and timeless.
What excites me most about this business is knowing I’m helping others hold onto moments that pass by so quickly. Whether it’s a wedding, a newborn session, or a family portrait, it’s an honor to turn those fleeting experiences into something tangible, something they can revisit for years to come.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Enmy a photographer, scientist, wife, mom, and storyteller at heart. My journey into photography started with a desire to preserve the moments that mattered most, initially capturing memories from my travels and later, the precious details of motherhood. Over time, this passion grew into something much bigger: a way to help others hold onto the moments they cherish, too.
I specialize in photographing families and couples, celebrating all the milestones along the way, from the joy of saying “I do” to the magic of a baby’s first Christmas. My style is a blend of warm, moody tones with a timeless, true to color feel. I also have a deep love for black and white photography, which I include in every gallery because I believe it’s classic and evocative, a way to highlight the emotion and essence of a moment. When you book with me, you’ll receive your gallery in both color and black-and white a little something extra that I love offering my clients.
What sets me apart is the experience I provide from start to finish. I’m not just your photographer; I’m your guide. Together, we’ll plan everything from the perfect location to the best outfits, the ideal time of day for magical lighting, and even fun, out of the box ideas that make your session uniquely yours. My goal is to make you feel at ease, enjoy the process, and walk away with authentic, meaningful photos that feel like you.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships I build with my clients. I’ve been lucky enough to capture couples as they start their lives together, document the arrival of their first child, and then continue photographing their family year after year. It’s an honor to be part of those stories and create images that will be cherished for generations.
To anyone considering working with me, know this: I’m here to help you celebrate life, love, and connection. Whether it’s a wedding, a family session, or a quiet moment with your little one, I’m here to make sure those memories are captured beautifully and authentically.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting and growing a photography business while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. A moment that truly tested my resilience came when I first started offering sessions after my son was born. At the time, I was still figuring out how to balance sleepless nights, a new routine, and the creative energy required to give my clients the best experience possible.
There was one week where I had back to back family sessions while also caring for a sick baby at home. I remember editing late into the night, fueled by determination and coffee, feeling overwhelmed but refusing to let it show to my clients. I was committed to delivering the warm, moody, and timeless galleries I pride myself on, even when it meant sacrificing sleep and taking things one moment at a time.
What kept me going was the knowledge that I was building something meaningful not just a business, but a way to provide for my family while capturing memories for others that they’d treasure forever. That week taught me that resilience isn’t just about pushing through the tough times but about finding purpose in the process and trusting yourself to grow stronger on the other side.
Now, when I face challenges in my business, I look back on that time and remind myself that I’m capable of overcoming more than I realize. Resilience has become part of my journey, and I bring that same determination to every session, ensuring my clients get nothing less than my very best.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that I needed to say “yes” to everything to grow my business. When I first started out, I thought that taking on every opportunity no matter how demanding or outside my expertise was the only way to succeed. I wanted to please everyone and prove that I could handle it all.
The turning point came when I found myself stretched too thin, juggling sessions that didn’t align with my style or the type of work I truly wanted to create. I realized that by saying “yes” to everything, I was actually diluting my brand and burning myself out. My passion for photography was starting to feel more like a chore, and I knew I needed to make a change.
The backstory? It was a session I agreed to that required a style completely different from mine. While I delivered what the client wanted, I felt disconnected from the work, and it reminded me why I started my business in the first place: to create meaningful, authentic photos that align with my creative vision.
Unlearning the need to say “yes” to everything was freeing. It taught me to focus on what I’m passionate about capturing families and couples in a way that feels timeless and genuine. Now, I’m intentional about the sessions I take on, and I’m proud to offer a specialized, consistent experience for my clients.
