We were lucky to catch up with Emma Baker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Emma, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Earlier this year we had the privilege of planning and executing an editorial shoot with some other amazing vendors from the local area. Our inspiration came from my love of the French painter Renoir. I wanted to evoke imagination with romantic and whimsical details at a luxury venue and the outcome was some of my favorite work I’ve ever produced. The shoot was published in Southern Bride magazine and on SouthernBride.com this summer. Having our work published in a national publication is a dream come true. I doubted myself a lot for the first several years we were in business so having that kind of validation meant so much and was certainly a confidence boost! It spurred more excitement and dreaming for the possibilities of the future.
Emma, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Emma Christine Creative specializes in capturing wedding and portrait photography for couples and families. We believe our clients deserve to have beautiful, high-quality images and work with photographers who treat them with love and respect. Our experience brings fine art photography with a personal touch because no two couples or families are the same. We strive to get to know our couples beyond their wedding day through their engagement session, regular communication, and meeting-ups before the big day. We truly believe having a friendship of trust with our couples leads to images with genuine emotion that they will cherish forever. We also provide resources and guidance to our couples and families for outfit selection and posing. Our lead photographer and creative is Emma! Her interest in photography began as a hobby in high school and she decided to turn her hobby into an official business after graduating from college. It has been quite a journey so far but God has continued to bless this business and our prayer is that we can continue to bring joy to many more families in the years to come!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One of my favorite educational sources in the wedding photography business is Katelyn James. I didn’t discover her until about 2 years in to the business. She is a genius in this industry, not because the information she is providing is brand new but because she has mastered how to take these business and communication principles and apply them in a way that builds trust, community, and a client experience that’s unmatched. Another resource I wish I had known about at the very beginning was styled shoots! Styled shoots are one of the best ways photographers in the wedding industry can build relationships with vendors and build their portfolio to attract their ideal client.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Even though ECC has grown slowly over the last five years, I wouldn’t change it because the way we have grown has been almost 100% organic through referrals. The relationships we build with our clients speaks louder than any paid marketing promotions. A great client experience isn’t just about giving out clients gifts or posting fast sneak peeks on social media. Those things are important, but other things such as the way you treat your clients and interact with their loved ones, your attitude on the wedding day and your tone of voice, are so much more impactful.
