We were lucky to catch up with Emery Cannon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Emery, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
For me it started with disappointment, I kept seeing talented people in sales, leadership, and life playing smaller than their potential. I was underpaid salespeople and leaders with big hustle but no direction and no training. The idea wasnt just a coach. The idea was a belief system. The shift from Idea to execution happened when I stopped waiting to feel ready. As a General Manager in the automotive industry, I was already leading teams and driving performance. I wanted to do more than drive performance. I wanted to build people, improve culture and most importantly create balance.. So I created a plan to improve those areas in business, I documented my framework, clarified my core beliefs, and started showing up consistently online.
I moved by setting deadlines, creating how to books with deadlines, and treated my coaching brand like a business. Small consistent actions created momentum and that momentum built my Coach Emery Cannon brand. I had to figure out how to create an online presence where clients can find me. I purchased a website. I treated my online presence like a store front. I made my message clear. I am Coach Emery Cannon and I simplify objections and increase sales performance. Once my message was clear that became my direction. Second I became consistent. I optimized my Linkedin profile, created a professional bio, published content on a regular, and aligned everything on the Coach Emery Cannon Brand. When someone googles me, they see alignment not confusion.
Third I created proof. Books, interviews, and client testimonial. Google recognizes activity, so instead of chasing followers I built credibility. Next I leveraged every opportunity. I started a podcast on youtube.com Coach Emery Cannon creating a digital foot print. Every footprint strengthens your google presence..
The Most important thing I did was focus on being visible and valuable.

Emery, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Emery Cannon. I have been automotive sales and management for 25 years. I didnt start in this industry with a masterplan. I started with just trying to find a job to support my family. I got into sales because I didnt have much skill in anything and when I interviewed they said they would train me. I realized quickly that it wasnt about sales, but more about people and performance. under pressure.. Its about taking care of people. I learned how to sale from some of the best in the business going to seminars like Brian Tracy and Les Brown. I learned the Steps to the sales process and started mastering each of them 1 by 1. I discovered my rea gift was active listening and having the ability to get people what they wanted and needed. That experience became the foundation for my company Cannon Sales Coaching and my coaching works. I didnt build my brand from theory I built it from experience.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started with Linkedin for my social media following for Coach Emery Cannon. When I started, I wasn’t trying to be an influencer. I was trying to be intentional. I focused on clarity first. I wanted people to know who I am and who I help. I built on that platform and making my content around Personal growth and belief and sales performance. I built my audience by showing up everyday with something new and meaningful. I purposely commented on as many post as possible trying to help with advise as much as possible. I posted ways to become better at sales and simplify objections. I wasn’t posting theories I was posting my real life. I posted testimonials from clients and posted people highlighting happy book customers. I made Linkedin my digital resume, my credibility engine and networking room all in one. I also showed people the real me.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely. I’m a student of growth, and a few voices shape and have shaped how I think about success, belief, and performance. Brian Tracy had a major impact on my discipline around goals and execution. His teachings on clarity, time management, and personal responsibility reinforced something I always believed I’ve always believed and that is success is structured. You don’t drift into achievement. You design it. Les Brown influenced my mindset and belief system. He speaks possibility at a deep level. Listening to him reminded me that many people aren’t underperforming because of skill, They under perform because of self doubt. That perspective heavily influenced my message and book You Deserve. Mick Hunt impacted me from a sales manager performance stand point. His approach to sales helped shape how I coach today. Sales isn’t about pressure. Its about process, confidence, and serving at a high level. Each of these mentors reinforced a core belief of mine. Structure creates results. I didn’t consume their content. I applied it all in life.
