We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Emani Haynes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Emani below.
Emani, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
One thing that I can honestly say my parents did right was making sure that I always put God first. Without God, nothing is possible. I put God first over all things and beings. I know that if I continue to lean on him, and trust him, I can do anything!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Emani, and I’m 24 years old. I run a business called The Sunflower Collection, where I sell hair extensions and hair essentials. I named my business after my love for sunflowers and the wide range of items I offer. I’ve always had a passion for hair; I get my hair done very often, and it makes me feel beautiful. I know other women can relate to this feeling, and I wanted to be part of the reason a woman feels her best.
At The Sunflower Collection, we provide high-quality hair products that cater to diverse styles and preferences. Our goal is to enhance beauty and confidence in every customer. What sets us apart is our dedication to quality and the personal connection we build with our clients. I’m most proud of the positive impact we have on our customers’ lives, helping them feel confident and beautiful.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that The Sunflower Collection is more than just a business—it’s a community where beauty, quality, and customer satisfaction are our top priorities.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I am currently pivoting my business to not only serve as a source of income but also as a means to help others. Business is always good, but right now it’s at a standpoint. I want to center The Sunflower Collection around assisting people who have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy. One side effect of chemotherapy is hair loss, and many women and children lose their confidence when they lose their hair. I want to give back by donating hair extensions to companies that make wigs for women and children suffering from hair loss due to chemotherapy.
This mission is deeply personal to me. My mother, God rest her soul, was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2016. She always wore short hair, but she lost the little hair she kept due to the chemotherapy. I vividly remember her asking me if I’d help her find head wraps and even short wigs. This experience has inspired me to use my business to support others going through similar struggles.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is to stop rushing. Early in my journey, I often found myself comparing my progress to others, feeling the pressure to keep up with their speed and success. This mindset led me to rush through tasks, make hasty decisions, and ultimately feel overwhelmed and disorganized. I had to learn that everyone’s path is different and that my own pace is just as valid and important.
One pivotal moment was when I was trying to expand The Sunflower Collection quickly to match the rapid growth I saw in other businesses. I ended up overextending myself, compromising the quality of my products, and feeling burnt out. It was then that I realized I needed to embrace patience and focus on maintaining a steady, consistent pace.
Patience is key in my life. I have to work on a scheduled pace because, if I don’t, things tend to slip out of place. By acknowledging and respecting my own rhythm, I’ve been able to achieve better results, maintain the quality of my work, and keep my sanity intact. This lesson has been crucial in both my personal and professional growth, helping me understand that success is not just about speed but also about sustainability and balance.
