We recently connected with Elizabeth Ryan and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
I am a HUGE fan of family owned businesses! I feel like the customer service and culture is far much better than some of the big box businesses. Family businesses impress me just based on the dedication put in and the love that is shown with each tasks preformed. I can usually tell right away who is family owned… everyone takes pride in their work and it normally shows through and through.. Plus it feels really great to support a family working hard.
Elizabeth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Elizabeth and I was born and raised right here in the heart of Dallas! Making people smile is my passion. Not only do I create and install amazing Yard Cards, I also have worked in the Dental field for the last 20 years. Dentistry by day and Yard Cards by Night. It’s always so exciting to card a yard and see the happiness and joy it brings to my customers. It’s even more rewarding getting to meet my neighbors and being involved in my community by carding a Happy Birthday, celebrating a new baby ,,announcing graduations, congratulating anniversaries, and so many more fun things. I usually never turn down the opportunity to help one celebrate even if it’s a last second order. The bonus factor for me is my repeat customers have become some of my greatest friends. I have a huge heart and my passion is truly making one smile.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I moved to LakeHighlands in 2014 with my husband and daughter. I joined an Awesome Ladies group ( 100 Women of LakeHighlands) and quickly became involved in my own community. Through this, I met soooo many people and made several relationships with others. I continued to stay in that ladies group for several years along with eventually getting on the Board of that group… Little did I know that just being so involved would help me big time when starting my yard card business. A few years later I also joined the PTA which allowed me to make and build even more relationships and now I am so lucky to get to card all of the school functions. Never in a million years did I think all of my volunteer time would pay of 6 years later with my own business.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Growing up I was taught that the customer is always right. I give that type customer service through and through. Have I made mistakes, sure I have… But for me it’s about always doing the right thing when no one is looking. I also always go above and beyond to let my customers know just how much they mean to my business! Each and every customer hears from me personally and I stay in communication with them through the entire process. I feel like that alone has built my stellar reputation amongst my customers. I treat everyone as if I have known them my entire life and I always give my best efforts 100% of the time. I love reading what people say about me when recommending me on a social media platform… it shows that my customer service is excellent!!

I’ve known Elizabeth Ryan for years. She is so friendly, kind- hearted, and giving. I’m not at all surprised that her business has taken off like it has. If you haven’t yet, give her yard cards a try!
