We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elisha Foulks . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elisha below.
Alright, Elisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am now a retired Pro Makeup Artist who discovered a love for soap making. I initially started making soap to help a friend with psoriasis. That turned into me creating a feminine yoni soap called COOCHIE CAKES®️ that has taken my business to the next level. I have helped hundreds of women regain confidence through vaginal health.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My name is Elisha Foulks. I’m originally from Moncks Corner, SC (outside of Charleston) but I’ve been residing in Atlanta for almost 7 years. I started off as a makeup artist in 2011 and continued until last year 2021. Beauty has always been my passion. 6 years ago, I created my cosmetic line BKBeauty Cosmetics, where I started selling lipsticks and glosses. In 2020, I launched my first handmade soap as a Black Friday promo and was surprised at the response. On January 1, 2021 I launched a Yoni soap now known as COOCHIE CAKES®️ which completely took off and allowed me to put down my makeup brushes. I have now expanded and added more products to the feminine care line including wipes and a spray. I still make other soaps for skincare as well.
COOCHIE CAKES®️ was created to help women who struggle with common issues like BV, heavy cramping, and ingrown hairs.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
A few months ago, I saw a post from Supa (the owner of The Crayon Case) where she asked her followers to pitch their business in the comments. Normally, I wouldn’t have done it because I didn’t want to get lost in the comments, but I took a chance. Surprisingly, SHE WANTED TO PURCHASE FROM ME! I cried I was so excited! I was actually sold out, but she sent me her address and I sent the products for free. It was definitely a moment! I actually gained quite a few customers from that post as well.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When I initially started my cosmetic line, I started with about $400 and it was all I had. I knew nothing about funding and business credit until last year honestly. I’ve received funding from both Stripe and PayPal as a result of using them as payment processors.
