We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ELECTICIA Nicholson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, ELECTICIA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?

My bestie knew a friend that had his own bartending business for 20 years and asked him could I shadow him. Well he let me shadow a private party then after about an hour put me to work for the next three hours of free labor. Well a few weeks later he sent me to do a party for a couple that he had been working for, for years because he wanted to go do a pro football players party. That couple decided they liked me better lol and had kept me for the past five years as their premier bartender and I just love them because they took a chance no me as I had never done a party alone before them,

ELECTICIA, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

For years I loved to drink but did not like the taste of alcohol. One day I was in my kitchen mixing up juice & mixers trying to mask the taste, it was then I realized I have a knack for making cocktails that hid the alcohol taste while still giving you liquor courage! From there I started making them for friends and family who encouraged me to do this as a side job. As I began to start booking clients via word of mouth the pandemic hit. Oh no I was finally doing something I enjoyed now what? Well one day someone who was at a party I was bartending reached out to me after taking one of my cards. She said my cocktails were the best she’d ever had & were different (see I make my own mixers) and wanted to know if I bottled, sold, & delivered them. I told her yes, which was a flat out lie but I immediately researched, how to do that and from there birthed my next business venture.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I had worked for a company for 24 years and decided to accept their offer to take a package to end employment with them. From there I took some of the money to get a Business Coach & launch my business.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

Well after taking the package from my 24 year job, I always said if my side hustle doesn’t work out then I will find another job. After about 11 months, plus Covid and slow sales my bank account started to dwindle down so out of fear I ran out and got a job. I worked this job for about 16 months when they told us that if we did not get the Covid Vaccine we would be fired. I had a bad reaction to a flu shot in the past so I really did not want to take the vaccine so I prayed to GOD about it and was led to let them fire me because I did not want to take a risk on my life with the vaccine. Now fastforward almost two years later my business has been my only source of income and although my bank account doesn’t look anywhere near what I’m use to, praises to GOD that all my bills are paid and I am not homeless! Yet scary to going full time in my business it has been good to me and my family.
