We were lucky to catch up with Elaine Freitas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elaine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
It all started with a conversation with my Business coach, Deb Peretz, about my dream studio back in 2022. For a long time, I had a vision, and after a vision-guided meditation, I wrote it down in a journal. After 7 months, I was in another Business coaching program video meeting when the topic came up again, and that is when the action started. I started to inquire about places for rent and me and my husband Carlo Santos started visiting those places to learn the field and the pricing, in about a month, after seeing six other places, I found the ideal place. After thinking and running all the numbers, I decided to pursue my dream, so I went to the bank and applied for a loan and within a week, I signed the contract to get the place in 45 days.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Elaine Freitas, a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) and proud owner of Elaine Freitas Photography in Concord, MA. With 15 years of experience, I specialize in newborn, family, and women’s photography. My passion is capturing moments that bring joy, confidence, and cherished memories. In my studio, I create a warm, welcoming space where mothers, families, and babies are celebrated and cared for, so they can honor themselves and their unique journeys.

Have you ever had to pivot?
in 2022, have being a photographer for 13 years and a birth doula for 4 years, I burned out. I had to make a choice in which career I was going to continue because it was not healthy to keep both, and so after many months of deep thinking, I had to decide to stop accepting clients as a Birth doula and only focus on my career as a photographer and with that, I had to grow and that is when I created my dream studio.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
With an idea and no financial meaning, I went to my business bank and applied for a loan. I also applied with my Local bank, and that is where I got the support and loan. The local bank gave me more support than my current business bank. And of course, I switch banks. I had my financial report ready, so that was important for the bank to decide on giving me the loan.
With a leap of faith and a lot of work, I opened my beautiful and unique photography studio. I am so happy that I get to provide to my clients with my expertise, a place that feels like home, and create beautiful portraits for them.
