Edie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The risk I took was leaving Amazon to open my own business. I finally believed in myself and took matters into my own hands. It is now a year of being a sole proprietor and I love every minute of it. I find it funny that I have worked for other people’s practices or corporations for my whole life. It wasn’t until I found the confidence in myself with lots of belief that I could make a living for myself by myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Name is Edie Newall, and I am an acupuncturist/massage therapist and artist. I work in Arvada, Colorado, and own my own practice. What sets me apart from other people is the fact that I truly listen to my patients needs as well as have impeccable, bedside manners, explain why they are injured and then heal their aches and pains. I have studied over in China and have I interned with a 10th generational Chinese acupuncturist doctor. One of my unique modalities that I provide is cupping. I get a lot of questions as to what is it and how it works. Cupping is an ancient art, form of promoting more blood and loosening up knotted muscle fibers in the body. It is mainly done on the upper back and shoulders. Basically it’s helping bring the tight deep, muscle fibers up to the surface to be easily accessed and rubbed out. I love doing this in my massages. Cupping provides great relief in muscle tension. I also make orgonite and sell it a local markets. Orgonite is a resin or epoxy art form that provides healing. The crystal metal matrix is the secret. I combined Paizo electric crystals with metal shavings, mixed into the resin that creates a balance at a cellular level. The crystal metal matrix when compressed in resin converts negative energy into positive energy by absorbing and remediating EMF waves. We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The patterns of fear based discipline. As a child I grew up in an unhealthy environment. So as an adult all the things you knew and learn you just keep doing as an adult until one day a V8 slaps you across the forehand to snap yourself out of the so called patterns that have not worked for ya in the last 20 years. Really had a come to Jesus moment and relearn how to actually function healthy as an adult. I think the game changer for me was realizing I’m an extremely hard worker, and not getting the deserve recognition. Or as Deadpool says, when you just hit “fuck it”. I found myself floundering as an adult lost in space or the matrix. Once I realized that the only change that was to occur, was if I internally made the change. I took a solo retreat for four days, three nights into the woods by myself to let go of all the unnecessary things that were holding me back in life. I cried, I meditated and I prayed until I realized I am enough, I am worthy! So then I began to get the ball rolling into now let’s go out there and make something of it!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I dropped out of CSU my third year. I was never really booksmart and school was always difficult for me. As a young 21 year old living back home with my parents and working at Petco, this was really degrading. Getting back into college was my only true answer. Once I finished my undergraduate degree in elementary education and shadowed a classroom, I realized the kids weren’t the issue, the parents were. And how was I to ever get the confidence to address any situation if I haven’t ever addressed my own issues with myself. So I knew that that wasn’t a direction I wanted to take. Again being run by fear. So I enrolled into massage therapy school and we had a guest speaker demonstrate cupping. I later got to shadow him for my extra hours outside of class. He was an instructor at the school that I ended up going to to get my masters in Chinese medicine.
