We were lucky to catch up with Eddie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eddie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a lesson you learned in school that’s stuck with you and has meaningfully impacted your journey?
“Your authentic self is enough” is one of the most important lessons I learned in college. This lesson came later in life, in my early 30s. I felt out of place throughout my life, especially between elementary and high school. I was judged for being too geeky or smart for the neighborhood and too hood for the children in honors classes. In college and higher education, I showed up as myself and succeeded more than I ever thought possible, earning Valedictorian in a Master’s program and honors in two other degrees. I learned that my authentic self is enough.

Eddie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Eddie McDonald, a business strategist and entertainment specialist who has always had a passion for both since my youth. My journey began with singing in the youth choir in a small Baptist church, which transformed into poetry, R&B, and then gospel rap. I’ve done everything professionally in the entertainment industry, from audio production to film production to live events. This even extends into management and leadership within large entertainment corporations. Moreover, I am a doctoral candidate in business administration with a focus on marketing. I combine my experience and education with sound theoretical foundations and business strategies. Therefore, I develop creative business strategies that yield a competitive advantage. This is unique in that my strategies are rooted in entertainment and in the body of marketing knowledge comprised of psychology, sociology, and mixed-methodological research.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
My advice for managing a team and maintaining high morale is to adhere to the golden rule taught by my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, namely, Love thy neighbor as thyself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Follow this in business, love on your team, and high morale is inevitable.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Right now. As my journey continues, I am learning that I am more than I originally thought. I thought of myself as creative and found myself leading creative initiatives. This has been the greatest career pivot thus far.
