Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dylan Huey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Dylan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
At the age of 21, I’ve carved a unique path in the realms of creativity and entrepreneurship that many might dream of. Reflecting on the question, “Am I happy as an artist or creative? Do I wonder about having a regular job?” I’d say my journey has been a blend of passion, hard work, and a constant pursuit of innovation, which has brought me immense satisfaction and fulfillment.
Happiness, for me, comes from the ability to express myself creatively and impact others. As Rodin’ Flash, I’ve connected with over 2 million followers, sharing my music and artistic vision. This journey of being a content creator and musician has been exhilarating and deeply rewarding. It’s a realm where every project is a canvas for my creativity, every challenge a chance to innovate, and every success a shared celebration with my audience.
Having managed creators like Huddy and witnessing their explosive growth – from 200K to 5M followers – has been a testament to the power of creative strategy and the importance of authentic engagement. These experiences have not only honed my skills but also solidified my passion for this dynamic industry.
Running Reach, the first collegiate influencer organization, has been another chapter in my creative journey. Expanding from USC to prestigious universities like UCLA, Penn State, and Duke, I’ve seen firsthand how creativity can be harnessed for entrepreneurship and leadership. It’s more than just managing a business; it’s about nurturing a community of like-minded individuals and guiding them to realize their potential.
While I sometimes ponder the concept of a ‘regular job,’ I realize that my path is unconventional by its very nature. The world of social media and content creation is ever-evolving, making each day different from the last. This unpredictability is, in fact, what drives my passion. It’s a landscape where creativity meets technology, where every day is a learning opportunity, and where I can make a tangible difference.
The world of content creation and entrepreneurship is where I thrive. It’s a space where I can blend my love for art, technology, and innovation to create something meaningful. And while the allure of a conventional job might intrigue me momentarily, I am reminded of the impact and fulfillment my current path brings, not just to me, but to the communities and audiences I engage with.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a 21-year-old entrepreneur, content creator, musician, host, speaker, and innovator deeply immersed in the entertainment, social media, and technology sectors. My journey into this vibrant world began as a young creative driven by a passion for expression and connection.
My entry into the industry was marked by the creation of my stage persona, Rodin’ Flash, which allowed me to reach over a million followers across social media platforms. This experience not only honed my skills as a content creator and musician but also opened my eyes to the vast potential of digital platforms in shaping careers and narratives.
I am most proud of my TEDx Talk, “Social Media Saved My Life,” where I shared my personal journey and the transformative power of social media. This talk encapsulates my philosophy and approach to the digital world – one that sees social media as a tool for positive change and personal growth.
In my Tedx Talk, I discuss how I was originally bullied in middle school and utilized my social media to build a community where people can feel like there’s others who relate to them. Quickly, in just a week, I garnered 30K followers, 100K in the first 6 months, and I now have over 2M+ followers.
Currently, I helm Reach, the first and only collegiate influencer organization, which started at USC and has expanded to over 55+ universities, including UCLA, Penn State, and Duke. Reach aims to bridge the gap between formal education and the digital creator landscape, providing a platform for young creators to learn, collaborate, and grow.
My services and creative works range from content creation strategies and social media management to music production and event hosting. I aim to solve the intricate challenges faced by creators and brands in the digital space, focusing on building strong community ties, enhancing online presence, and navigating the ever-changing landscape of social media.
In essence, my journey has been about exploring the limitless possibilities of the digital world and helping others to do the same. I invite you to join me on this exciting adventure.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, there’s a deeply personal and meaningful goal that drives my creative journey. Having started my foray into social media as a response to being bullied, my core mission has always been about inspiration and relatability. It’s about showing others, especially those who might feel isolated or marginalized, that they’re not alone in their experiences.
The core of my work, whether it’s through content creation, music, or leading Reach, is centered on this principle of inspiring others. It’s not just about reaching a vast audience but about making a real, tangible impact on individuals. If I can inspire just one person, make them feel seen, understood, or motivated to embrace their unique journey, then I consider my efforts successful.
This mission is deeply intertwined with my own experiences. I understand the power of connection and the importance of finding your community. My work is dedicated to creating those connections, fostering environments where people feel safe to express themselves, and where they can find support and encouragement.
In essence, my goal is to use my platform, my voice, and my experiences to empower others. I want to be a beacon of hope and inspiration, showing that out of challenging experiences can come strength, resilience, and a powerful message of unity and support. This is what fuels my creative journey and what I hope to continue doing for years to come.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and a creative is undoubtedly the opportunity to teach and educate the next generation of creatives through Reach. It’s about opening doors and creating opportunities for young talents who are just starting their journey in this dynamic industry.
A perfect example of this rewarding experience was when I had the privilege to bring one of our Reach members to the recent red carpet premiere of Netflix’s “The Crown.” Witnessing her walk the red carpet for the first time was a moment of immense pride and fulfillment. Seeing her confidence, excitement, and sheer talent on full display, and knowing that I played a part in making that happen, encapsulates the essence of why I do what I do.
These experiences go beyond just teaching technical skills or industry knowledge. It’s about instilling confidence, providing real-world experiences, and nurturing the growth of young creatives. Being able to witness their development, their first big moments, and their successes is incredibly gratifying. It reinforces my belief that through Reach, we’re not just building skill sets; we’re empowering dreams and shaping the future of the creative industry. This is the heart of my work and the most rewarding aspect of my journey as a creative.
