We recently connected with Drew Washington and have shared our conversation below.
Drew, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I have trained many men and women over the years. One of my clients locked in and was able to lose 100 lb in 11 months of training. She showed up everyday with a positive attitude ready to put in the work. On the hard days she pushed through with the determination to meet her fitness goals. Together we worked every session to get better and each weigh in her confidence grew because now she saw what she was capable of doing. Not only did she lose 100 lbs but she gained the skills she needed to maintain the weight loss she has been disciplined to keep the weight off.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
My name is Drew Washington and I am the owner and head trainer of Team Body of Work Fitness, LLC. To fully understand the amount of passion and desire I have for the success of my business I need to take you back to before it even started. I received a full ride scholarship to Louisiana Tech for basketball my junior year of high school and I was all set to further my education and enhance my basketball skills at the next level. I wanted so badly to make basketball my career after school but life had another plan for me. After obtaining my bachelor degree in Sociology, I was offered the chance to go play overseas. I declined the opportunity because I became a father and wanted to help raise my son. Not too long after my son was born I ended up losing my job as a Case Manager. I was stuck, confused and looking for a positive outlet to uplift my spirits. I started lifting weights in my garage during the days to make the time pass and I became truly passionate about the process of gaining muscle mass. I’ve always had a basketball build; lean, tall, and a fast metabolism that kept me skinny. I knew in order for me to transform my body it was going to require discipline, in the kitchen and the gym, determination and focus. For two years I lifted weights, ate the same prepared food every day and researched fitness to learn as much as I can. Over the years I became very knowledgeable in the art of losing and gaining weight, sculpting your body and implementing a healthy diet in order to completely change your lifestyle. Friends and family members that would see me out and started asking me what I was doing because I looked like a totally different person than the one they were used to seeing. The enamored looks turned into questions about how I could help them transform. I started with minimal equipment in an empty garage training people for FREE. I heard the saying once, “Find something you love to do and you’ll never work a day in your life” and Team Body of Work was born. I started charging for my services which allowed me to purchase equipment to invest into what had become Team Body of Work Fitness. Before I knew it I was a fully functioning personal training studio based in the garage of my home. It’s been 10 years now that I’ve been able to support my family doing what I love and help transform hundreds of people who came with hopes of changing their lifestyles. My philosophy is simple: the amount of work you deposit is directly correlated to the results you withdraw. In a growing sea of personal trainers all trying to get bigger than the next, I just hope to stand out for my genuine love for health and fitness and the joy I receive from seeing my clients transform both mentally and physically before my eyes. My goal is to help as many people as I can challenge themselves in order to accomplish personal goals they may have thought were impossible. I try to educate them about the process, explain the dedication and focus required, and inspire them to adapt my philosophy to achieve success.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The year 2020 was a life changing year for everyone. When the pandemic hit the world went into complete lockdown. No travelling, no service providers could do business, many people were out of work. My lively hood was at stake. Being a gym owner I had to figure how to maintain my personal training studio and abide by the policy that the city had put in place. Being a trainer not everyone can come in so I had already created an app that people could use remotely. During COVID I had to pivot and rely on my app to help people continue to reach their fitness goals until it was safe to allow in person workouts.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience by being authentically me. I did not try to act like anyone else or copycat what I saw from other fitness social media accounts. I stayed true to who I am and that has attracted the followers I have today. My advice for anyone wanting to build their presence is to be YOU. Their is no one like you and no one that can do what you do.
