We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Drew Ashworth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Drew below.
Drew, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
It was my dream from as far back as I can remember to make a career out of performing and creating music. My parents say I was singing before I was talking and loved to dance even as a baby. My dance skills have since faded but, I got pretty good on the guitar and people seem to enjoy it when I sing. Reality meant that until 2017, I kept a job that paid my bills. I am extremely fortunate and blessed to be in a position where I can focus on music as a career. It was not always the case.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist from metropolitan Atlanta, Ga. I won the 2022 Atlanta blues challenge. I am endorsed by Baldacci Guitars and Clayton Custom Guitar picks. My music is available wherever you stream/download. It is a multi-genre thrill ride from blues to country to rock and jazz. It is as eclectic as it is southern. I perform mostly in northern Georgia but occasionally travel to perform. My shows cover multiple genres of music and my messages are ones of positivity, inclusion, and brotherhood as well as, heartbreak, love, and culture.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I feel that there are many negative, divisive messages in todays media. I strive to create songs that are in stark contrast to those messages. I want to deliver messages that encourage love and brotherhood. The world is a big place. It takes all kinds to make it work. I think that most people have a lot more in common with people they might view as different. All it takes is a conversation to find some common ground. That’s real. I encourage everyone to try it!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Mass media in America has become extremely consolidated. Much of what we see, hear, or read is decided in shockingly few boardrooms. If we’re talking music, every superstar was once a local talent. The superstar will be just fine if you will take a small portion of what you spend on tickets every year and spend it looking for the next superstar performing for free in a pub. The indie artist will not/cannot survive if people only support the superstars. Do you really want your only option for live music to cost $500 a ticket?
