We recently connected with Dr. Nicole S. Mason, Esq. and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Nicole S., looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When you were first starting out, did you join a firm or start your own?
I started my own firm shortly after passing the bar exam. I made this choice because I was exposed to entrepreneurship early in my life. My grandmother was one of two women business owners in my community. I understood that it wasn’t popular just by the numbers, but it was normalized in our community. My grandmother was well-respected and was very successful! So, for me, it was a no-brainer to become an entrepreneur myself. Additionally, I believe it is important to note that my grandmother was adamant that I go to school and pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. I knew at age 9 that I wanted to be a lawyer. I loved watching Perry Mason, and in particular, at the end, when he had a witness on the stand, and after a barrage of questions from Perry Mason, the witness would confess. I was intrigued! Finally, I was and continue to be a staunch advocate for what is right, fair, and equitable.
Moreover, I have always had my “hand in multiple cookie jars.” In addition to my entrepreneurial endeavors, I built a long and accomplished career as a public servant in the federal government. I worked in Civil Rights for more than 30 years. I retired from federal service in 2025.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an attorney, licensed and ordained minister, an international best-selling author, a coach, and a spiritual mentor. I am a multi-talented and multi-faceted woman, very intentional in using every gift, skill, and talent I have been entrusted with to make a difference and an impact on the Earth. I am an Estate Planning Attorney helping the “sandwich generation” establish their estate plans. This is the generation that is taking care of elderly parents and young adults. This work is important to me because I have seen too many families lose loved ones, and the family is left in shambles financially.
Additionally, I am a licensed and ordained minister. In this capacity, I minister to women and help them create the lives they want, stop people-pleasing, and live lives that others have approved. I serve as a spiritual mentor and have had the pleasure of mentoring hundreds of women. I hosted a monthly gathering of women for twelve years. I have helped women write their stories. I have also created a community for women to come together, share their experiences, and support one another. I was recognized by former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan for mentoring women.
What sets me apart from others is the combination of legal, spiritual, and marketplace experience I bring to my mentoring and coaching. Above all, it is the anointing on my life that makes the difference!
The thing that I am most proud of is my Faith for Fiery Trials® Book Franchise. The mission is to help women and men tell their stories of triumph. What started as a one-time project has turned into working on the 10th book in the Franchise. The first book was recognized as Anthology of the Year by Indie Author Legacy Awards. The 3rd book was an Amazon #1 Best-Seller. The books have been presented at the Black Caucus Authors’ Showcase. They have also been featured at several college libraries.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I mentioned earlier that I wanted to be a lawyer since I was 9 years old. However, when it came time for me to apply to law school, I applied 9 times and was rejected 9 times. But it is important to note that I would not take no for an answer! I was determined that no one was going to stop me from my childhood dream of becoming a lawyer.
I applied for a tenth time, and the Admissions Director called to tell me I had been accepted and could attend Orientation to pick up my Admittance package. I remember walking into Orientation and hearing some people gasp for air. They could not believe I was starting law school, big, round, and very pregnant! Yes, I was and did start and finish with my class. I was blessed to have a woman from my church walk up to me and offer to tape the classes while I was out having my baby. She made good on her promise. I was able to keep up with the lessons and take my exams at the end of the semester.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The thing that has helped me to build my reputation within my market is consistency. Over my 25+ years in ministry, I have stayed committed and dedicated to God and to the call on my life.
